The hermitage is a beautiful place, but not only that. It is possible to reach by car an intersection (on a stone road) where you can park. At this point a walk (30/40 minutes) with a beautiful natural landscape. Finally the hermitage, which is beautiful, then you can go further! Walk down past the hermitage and reach the river. Continuing towards the valley you will meet (on your left) the spring of San Bartolomeo. An absolutely recommended place, maybe with a guided tour.

After a 40 min walks under the August sun, me and my friends arrived to to nice, cozy and cold place. The Eremo is on the verges of a mountain and it's very nice to see from the bottom. Even if the going way was fine, it was coming back that was very tiring, due to the hot weather and climbing. I suggest to go either when the weather is chill or early in the morning.

We were going to do the 30 minute walk to the grotto. The path is very rocky and uneven, and you have to be careful that you don't slip. 20 minutes into the half our trip, I slipped. It was not serious, but with that we met a couple who thought is was quite perilous. My partner decided that we were not going on.

Magnificent gorge setting for this tiny church set into the rock - worth the shortish walk, which is also on the well known Sentiero dello Spirito in the Parco di Majella which links a number of other special sites.

After reading some of the reviews on tripadvisor about this Eremo we thought we should visit it. The people who wrote that the road to reach it was easy were either very fit or a lot younger than us! I definitely recommend good strong shoes. Immersed in greenery part of the road is not too bad, some parts uneven with pretty high steps in places. If you are looking for a spiritual experience then it's worth it. From the start of the trail it takes at least half an hour one way (depending on how fit you are!). Parking near the Macchie di Coco restaurant. You can visit anytime as it's always open.
