Amazing

Absolutely loved this. The family owned business is so worth supporting and the stories behind it all makes it so much better.

Gloworm Glory! A must see
Sep 2020 • Family
What a fantastic hidden gem. Thousands of gloworms and lovely stories from our guide “summer”. This family owned land and attraction is simply a must see and do while in the bay of islands. You will not find this many gloworms in a single cave anywhere else.

Really Interesting Experience
Sep 2019
We found this attraction online before going to NZ in 2019 so we are a bit late posting
a review, we didn't book just turned up while driving back to Auckland from Phahia off SH1 ,we had a small group of about 12 and we stood in a line and every other person was given a light so we could follow the guide into the caves Sorry no photos as not allowed in caves. We saw plenty of gloworms especially when lights off,and we were told the life of a glow worm very interesting and how the caves were found (nothing about a deep chasm) you come out on the otherside of the cave above ground level then left to make your way back to the carpark through wooded area along a path.
The staff were very pleasant value for money glad we did not book a big tour else where at 3x the value I have put visit for September 2019 to fill requirements actually went March 2019

Hidden Gem
Aug 2020
Great personal tour by our guide, good knowledge of the history, area, great sense of humour. Got a lot of local knowledge and recommendations too. Learnt a lot and was not too far away from Paihia. Highly recommend at any time of year however best to ring ahead and check first as there had been recent flooding.

Faked up story
Jan 2020
On 6 January 2020 I visited the Kawiti Caves and had a guided tour.
Among other stories the guide told us about a extreme deep abyss in this cave. He spoke of 20.000 meters, and neither an unmanned submarine nor sonar could find the bottom. After the tour I asked the guide about this incredible story; and he answered, I would find confirmation in books and in the internet. I did so, and found nothing. A mail to the Kawiti family received no answer. A second mail 2 weeks later was ignored as well. So I sent a mail to the NZ Speleological Society, and a few days later I got the information:
„I can assure you that there is no great depth to this cave. It does not appear on the list of about 80 caves in New Zealand that are over 100 metres deep, and the total depth of the cave is probably less than 30 metres.“
So: if anyone wants to see glowworms here: well, there are glowworms in Kawiti cave. If you are interested in background information, don’t believe a word. You will be lied to and fooled.

Waiomio's Kawiti Caves - An Experience
Jun 2020
We took a guided tour through these family-owned caves and were absolutely delighted with both the physical attractions and cultural history of this unique part of Waiomio in Northland. Our guide was Brandon and he was knowledgeable (I learnt something), funny and full of stories.
The milky way is an awesome sight. The caves aren't huge but they still offer fantastic rock formations, stalagmites and stalactites, and the worms give off a sparkling show. Would recommend you visit if you want to be entertained.

Well worth a visit!
Jul 2020 • Family
This was an unexpectedly good experience. Like most people heading north to Russell, Pahia or west to other destinations, I’ve driven past this wee gem of a place on many occasions but on this occasion my kids insisted we visited.
Not far of the main road the Kawiti Caves proved to well worth the time and money to visit. Some great local history and education told well and with passion by our guide coupled with the amazing Caves and their star attractions the Glow Worms!
Really well set up with boardwalks and stairs all through the caves.
Highly recommend taking the hour required out of your trip to enjoy this fantastic local experience.
