Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We experienced an average meal. Was not inspired to enter the gardens. The facility is showing its age and could do with some attention.

Have to recommend very highly the thoughtfulness of staff and the beauty of Blossom Valley. My stepsister and I drove my elderly stepmother from Kapiti for a special day out from hospital where she stays because of dementia with epilepsy. We first went to the cafe, but my stepmother had a small epileptic turn and ended up on the floor. One of the cafe staff had been a paramedic so made sure she was safe and phoned for an ambulance. After being checked out, she was clear to go but it seemed a bad idea to go for a walk around the gardens with the risk of another turn. We were so disappointed not being able to see the blossom trees. Saving the day, the the same staff member ever-so-kindly arranged for one of the owner's sons to take us for a golf buggy tour around the blossom trees. It was simply heaven. It made what had been a kind of crap day for my stepmother into something lovely. We are so grateful.

Absolutely shocked about the small serving of egg Benedict for $22. Two tiny half crumpets with 1/2 streak of bacon and a egg.

We ordered soup of the day and definitely wish we hadn’t. The mushroom soup was lukewarm and very very salty. Next was a cup of almost cold coffee. A disappointing lunch.

Having been to Aston Norwood before we were looking forward to our visit yesterday (6th Nov) however we were disappointed with what was on offer for brunch/lunch and whilst we appreciate the cafe is under new management we expected the same standard as in the past and a similar menu as to what is currently available on the website. We suggest this website is updated informing folks of the new management & their new menu. We were also told High Teas are no longer available 🙁

We visited at the end of September so the spring-flowering plants were all at their best. The cherry blossoms were indeed a highlight but the other plants such as rhododendrons, camellias and azaleas were all outstanding. This really is the best time of year to visit.

Another reviewer was concerned about the car parking. We did not try to drive ourselves but instead got a small touring company to do us a personal tour which was focused around these gardens. So we did not have to care about parking, fortunately.

We were excited to see the cherry blossom trees not knowing how busy it was to park. It was not an enjoyable experience at all. It lacks the capacity to accommodate large amount of people. The ground was muddy and full of people. We were in the park for about 30 minutes (total of 2 hours allowed). It took quite an effort to get out the park. There were still more than 20 cars trying to get into Asterton Wood entrance. The cars were extended onto side of the motorway. Not sure how safe it is. It’s probably the last time for us.

NOT GLUTEN FREE/COELIAC FRIENDLY. Came for a function for dinner with over 20 people. A member of our group has coeliacs disease. Items listed as gluten free were clearly gluten i.e. couscous. Spoke to the chef who had no idea about couscous having gluten and did not seemed phased that there was gluten in it. Tried to suggest another dish but this was also not gluten free when it was listed as such. The member of our party was contaminated and when spoke to the owner he simply said “oh” and “eek” over and over again with no apology or offer of compensation. Items in desserts were not mentioned, which lead to things being sent back due to intolerances such as coconut in a “warmed chocolate brownie”. Brandy snaps were just one snap not filled. Other meals were cold and unpleasant. Not enough staff on to serve our group and had to go to get service for drinks. Overall an extremely poor experience. Will not be returning. Such a disappoint from a well known Upper Hutt establishment.
