Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It was raining when we visited but this really didn't take away from the beauty of this park. The paths are really well maintained and it has some lovely swing bridges. It is also great to see a lord of the rings filming location - Rivendell - there is even a life-size elven arch to mark the spot.

We recently spent a couple of lovely nights here. Firstly on a powered site, then on an unpowered on the top terrace, the lower terrace was all closed due to rain. Nice campsite, didn’t use any facilities, close to lots of nice walks. Pay machine dotted about. Nice spot! Find us on YouTube if you’re about, Saltyskin Road Trip

Not fully open due to refurbishment of earthquake prone infrastructure.
Rivendale from Lord of the Rings is easily accessed as is the loop walk taking in the swing bridge.

Even in the rain the park is stunning and so well kept. Of course the tiny loop used in lord of the rings Rivendale is beautiful. The gorge is awe inspiring and the campsites well worth the fees. Simple first come, first served so do book if you can. The campsites are very well maintained. The fresh air and walks easy to do and for all the family to enjoy. Saw so many teenagers with parents enjoying the outside and river swimming.

Really nice walk along the river and over the swingbridge into the bush. But the main purpose for our visit was to visit where they filmed Rivendell in LOTR. Lots of info about the filming on boards and you could easily imagine the activity of the filming and stand in some famous places and pretend to be a hobbit, elf, dwarf, or even Arogorn if you so wish (and I do!)

We have visited this park again and again and have done most of the walls in it. Most recently we did the Kaitoke Hill track as part of our completion of the end of the Hutt River Trail, and the. The Ridge Track.

Both featured climbs and views. It is worth being careful on the Ridge Track though after bad weather as it will be muddy causing you to have to climb around mud pools as you progress up the track and slowing you down. The climb is about 400-500 metres in total, starting steeper but flattening out to a constant climb to the first lookout. The climb down to the track exit by Pakiratahi Fork is steep and the track has many roots, however, it features good switchbacks.

There are two good lookouts on the track, the first back down the valley to Upper Hutt, the second over the back towards the Tararuas. Things we read said there were views along the track down to the valley. However, the Bush seems to have grown and we couldn’t see out. We think it would be very worthwhile for the GWRC to consider adding more lookouts as it it the major track in t he park and the views would be fantastic.

My wife and I were on a tour and arrive at Kaitoke and went on the walk through the former Lord of the Rings movie set. It was very interesting and wonderland how Peter Jackson returned the landscape back to what it was prior to the movie shoot.

Went to see where the the Rivendell scenes of The Lord Of The Rings was filmed. Also had a peaceful stroll on some of the walkways.....many more to explore next time. The area is also dog friendly.
