Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Do not be deceived by the modest entrance to this museum - it is an absolute gem. A great experience, being able to walk through the tunnels and imagine what it would have been like. Really informative audio guide, interesting exhibition and so relieved we decided to go in! Very reasonably priced entry and gift shop. Unfortunately no cafe on site, as we would have loved to have stayed and had lunch and then returned for another explore in the tunnels. A great Museum, well worth a visit.

Having visited a number of other gun batteries in Normandy, I thought this would be much the same and a relatively quick visit. How wrong could I be. This is probably the best German gun battery site we have visited. At one pint we were the only people there. Upon arrival we were provided with an audio guide, this actually brought the site to life and explained what we were seeing and putting things into context. As a result we spent nearly 3 hours exploring the site. The underground passages/tunnels/trenches I have not seen before. From above ground you can track the tunnels as the ground is a different colour. This battery is different to others we have seen, not just because it is well preserved but the construction was different. The Tobruks had ladders rather than staircases. The story of how the USS Nevada knocked out a casement without the shell exploding is amazing as is the fact the shell is still in the casement!
Well worth a visit.

You can immerse yourself in the history of this place by simply being there. Thank you. It was easy to imagine what this site was like during the German occupation - and on D Day.

Brilliant place to visit. Everyone in our group found it fascinating.
It was lovely a quiet when we went. The audio tour is exceptional with loads of options to go in to more detail at many points of the tour.

The is a stunning museum.
Well maintained and good preserved.
Fantastic audio guide in all major languages.
There are also audio guides extra for kids.
Very friendly staff.
Dogs allowed.
The tour not only gives information on the bunkers but also about the background.
Very comprehensive.
If you like you can go into detail for almost every aspect (guns, ammo, personel).
A must see if you are interested in the part of history.
We would go again.

Well kept and maintained gun battery where you get an idea of how the German soldiers were living while occupying Normandy.
An audio guide is included in the entry price. I personally found it a bit too much detailed information at times, but if was filled with information and facts.
If you listen to all the information it takes you a bit more than an hour to go through everything. Well spent time if you ask me.

been to this site before around 11 yrs ago , new visitors centre with a small display and photos from the war , useful phone type tour guide you take around with you and good you can get extra content on a particular area if required, quite a bit underground in tunnels but not as claustrophobic as the site makes out, one of the bunkers has a the remains of a shell in it and the damage is unbelievable even though it didn't explode, ( could of spent a lot more time here if the wife would of let me ) be sure to walk to the front of the bunkers to see the shell damage and take note of the damage to the rear including the air vents ect, will revisit here next year

Went here with my teenage son. Next to the car park (free) were two bunkers you could go into. Then across the road there was a clearly brand new wooden building, which you had to go in to get to the other bunkers, as they had fenced the area off.
We walked thru the shop and out the other end to the bunkers. On this side there are paths (semi-) underground, connecting bunker areas. We noticed the few ppl there having an audio tour, but we didn't care for that.
Though impressed by how it was all built, it's been totally stripped and you have to use a great deal of imagination to get an idea of life in such surroundings.
It should be set out more with replicas of equipment that would have been there. Bunk beds, periscope, communication devices, etc. For kids I think it's boring.
There were some boards with pictures and text - ONLY in French.
Even with audio tour, I feel it lacks and set up to make a quick pound..... As we found out it costs 6,50 to enter. Though interesting, at 6,50 it's at least 4 euros too expensive.
I do apologise for not paying, it was absolutely not clear you, had to. No prices or 'get your tickets here' signs that I saw.
Seeing what they ask money for, I can recommend going to Batterie Longues-sur-Mer, north of Bayeux. Batterie with the guns still in place AND free!!

There is a new centre there to get access to the site. If you are not keen on tunnels you might not like it as a lot of the bunkers etc were linked by tunnels. i found the recordings that you listen to informative. Car park not far away.

How do I get there using public transportation from the port at Cherbourg Octeville? My Regal princess cruise ship arrives 4/27/16 at 8:00 am departs at 18:00, do I have enough time to visit?

Hi Debbie and Andy (I presume),
While it is not easy finding the museum's website, I did find a page that seems to contain the information you are looking for by typing in the French spelling of the site name in Google (la batterie d'azeville). On the front page they list a contact web-page address as well as an email address(see below). If you find their opening and closing times confusing to understand (which I did), then try and write to them mentioning what time of year you hope to visit. I am sure they will be able to oblige you.
Note: on the opening times it states 2.00 am, this should read 2.00 pm. :) I corrected the entry below, but on the web-page it is wrong.
Cheers and enjoy your visit. I am sure you will enjoy it.
Best wishes from Canada, Alvin
PS. I had to change some of the addresses as my reply was rejected as answers may not include HTML or website links (go figure?)
Do a google search for la batterie d'azeville - if you find the entry with patrimoine.manche in the web-name you have the right one. It came up as the 1st when I did my search.
