It was a cold and rainy day so we tripped over to Waiouru from Ohakune and spent a wonderful 4 hours wandering around in the Museum. There is so much to see and read and it gives you a real feel of New Zealanders actions during the world wars and more. Superb day!

We have two children under 10 and they had a great time finding the objects on the sheet given out at entrance. Really wonderfully displayed history of NZ army. Didn't have enough time as we had to keep going to get to our destination. Great little cafe to have a cuppa at the end.

Visited this museum as a family a long time ago and was not particularly impressed but it has been very much extended and is now absolutely excellent covering every conflict in which NZ has been involved from the Maori wars on. The medals collection is by far the best I have seen in any army museum and very accessible. The... More

As an Ex Artillery man, I have been watching this museum grow and develop over the years. For me, coming back this time, it was a Poignant reminder of the ultimate sacrifice that men and women have been making in the service to their country. The displays have just been getting better and better, and this time is no different.... More

The museum is really well laid out. Very informative with lots to do and see. I particularly liked the fact that the New Zealand Wars were acknowledged. I really enjoyed the individual stories too. I was there for almost 2 hours and only saw about 2/3. But then I am a slow reader.

I have been reading about the Great War and after a visit to the Wellington museum, National Army Museum was next, heading to Tokoroa. It was a good little look around.

We'd driven past a number of times, but this was the first time we'd stopped. The staff were friendly and the selection of displays and artifacts was larger than I expected. There was a little "tick sheet" for our youngest to do, so everyone had an activity to focus on. The size and selection was surprisingly large. In addition, the... More

The National Army Museum is a treasure, and one that is worth stopping for. too often people just drive past. The Museum is like the Tardis - its bigger on the inside than it appears from the outside, with three floors of exhibits. It takes at least an hour to see it very quickly, and you should plan to spend... More
