Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We set off with a 6 and 8 year old, who fared far better with the steep climb. Not impossible, but for two chubby unfit people, was a bit tough.
We arrived at high tide, which isnt recommended, but even so, found a lot of enjoy at this beach.
The beach swing was a highlight, as was some of the treasures washed up. The waves were fun and not too dangerous and the MAGINIFICENT giant pohutukawa and birdsong were a joy to sit under and gaze out to sea.
I wasnt immediately wowed by it, but the longer I stayed, the more a feeling of peace and serenity washed over me. Theres something a bit special here

We visited this beach as part of our walk on the NgaTapuwae a Toi walk. There is a hill to climb getting to and from it from
Ohope Beach bit it is worth it. Stunning beach and outlook with beautiful clean water.

Wow what a beautiful spot, truly secluded and untouched. White sand and stone beach, crystal clear blue water, good depth for a relaxing swim.
To get there you walk about 20mins down hill and the walk back up is extreme so b prepared for that. I went with 2 other adults and a toddler which we carried in a backpack.

From the West End of Ohope you'll find a series of steps up (250+) that take you up the cliff face and round to the bay (250+ steps down). Great views from the top of the walk. The beach itself is all small shells which can be harder on the feet.

This is a short hike from the West End of Ohope Beach. All along the way are amazing views. There are a couple of steep parts, but nothing too trying. The beach is stunning. We were there when the waves were huge, so no way you could go near the water or the rocks. The beach has interesting shells and some tide pools. Worth the walk.

Fabulous beach for a walk and watching a group of surfers master the fast, rolling waves. A lovely bay with some nice houses overlooking the scenic waters. The beach is clean and the water clear - a good combination

One of the prettiest beaches in the country. With the 15 minutes walk. There are various circuit walks too that take longer. Including a two hour walk to Whakatane. Awesome.

From West End Ohope Beach, Otarawairere is a mere 30 minute stroll along a well serviced & safe track.
The track meanders around coastal cliffs with stunning views of Ohope Beach & through lovely native bush, offering shade on sunny days.
Stepping out onto Otarawairere Bay is spectacular- Pohutukawa reach out over the golden crushed shell sand (great if you like to collect shells) in a crescent along the beach where you come to a small stream that flows into the sea if it hasn't been too dry.
It's a lovely place for a picnic, afternoon tea, a relax with swim or to explore the many rock pools at low tide!
Enjoy!!

Beautiful, secluded spot. Lots of wildlife.
Stunning, clear blue water.
Tide comes in very quickly and unexpectedly so be careful and very aware if fishing off the rocks.

This is a lovely little bay, especially if the weather is calm. Be aware it is affected by the tides - especially access from the Whakatane end. The walk from Kohi point took about 2 hours and requires an average (or above) + level of fitness - lots of stairs up and down and elevation. The access from West end is one big up and one big down. The reward of getting there is a shelly beach, and privacy amongst nature.
