Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Maui, Tommy's Grandson took the time after doing the lawns to talk to us about the real History of Moriori a peaceful people who are still living on the Islands.

It is worth the 30 minute trip to Owenga to visit the statue of Tommy Solomon which is situated at Manukau. To complete the story make sure you visit Kopinga Marae they are open for guided tours on a Wednesday at 10.00am. Make sure you ring first.

In itself, this is a cement statue of Tommy looking out to see from a fenced enclosure on the Solomon Estate (farm). You need a history or a guide to understand the full significance but the scenic road trip out from Waitangi to this site (almost the eastern end of NZ) is still a “must do”

This statue was just down the road from where we’re staying and we accessed it by walking along the beach. Got some good photos. Watch out for the bad smells of the bird colony on the rocks below

Looking at this statue made me quite sad to think that Moriori are no longer living. They were of different stature than I expected if this Memorial statue is anything to go by

This memorial is about 30 minute drive from the capital - through farm land . It is in a well kept garden overlooking the ocean. It is next to the Solomon sheep and cattle farm.

An interesting visit, having hear about Tommy Solomon at the local museum and from our tour guide. Nothing terribly special apart from the statue

a very moving place to visit - beautifully kept memorial to Tommy Solomon and well worth the drive out there. Stunning scenery and bird life nearby.

A must see. A lovely tribute to race and a person. Way out on the very edge of Chatham Island a visit is well worth it.

I found I was drawn back when I left and certainly felt the mystic.

Great to go to Tommy,s memorial with one of his descendants and hear the human stories, behind it. They are looking at ways to repair /replace the statue, we thought later that if they copied the statue in concrete and had the face made in bronze, it might last longer.
