With time running out on our last day in Franz Josef we were hoping to book a jet boat cruise. The only one available was the white Heron tour combining a jet boat cruise with a sanctuary tour to view the White herons only nesting colony. It was a personable tour as we were the only ones along with Dion... More

A truly amazing experience, from start to finish. The jetboat trip to the colony was scenic, with the ducks flying alongside the boat on many occasions. The short walk through the rainforest to the hide was well maintained, with signs explaining flora etc. Seeing the chicks in the nests across the stream from the hide was the highlight (as it... Really enjoyed this trip. 15 min drive, then a very nice jet boat ride for about 20mins. Short walk to the hide where there are binoculars and bug spray available to use! The birds are just lovely. Saw the herons feeding their young. For me though, the spoonbills stole the show. Watched them tussle over the best spot to collect... More

During our Australien and New Zealand trip we have participated in many tours. This tour is absolutely great and was a big surprise for us. A truly unique experience, this is the promise father and son fulfil. We had a 14 km tour with a minibus (8 persons only) with a very good introduction to these wonderful birds (CD, well... More

This was a bucket list trip for me as I am named after the White Heron (Kotuku). This half day trip was well worth the time and money. The jet boat ride to the colony was great; thrill seekers will find it sedate but the sedate will find it thrilling, without being hairy! The kotuku and other birds where easy... More

It's a privilege to be able to watch this rare gracious birds in their nesting colony feeding their chicks. Right there, in front of you, just across a small river. Demanding more food chicks make you wonder how much patience parent bird can have. Chicks are so cute even though a bit loud. I was lucky to take the last... More

My husband and I did this trip last year and just had to return. This time I had my near 90 year old mother with us. The company arranged a wheelchair for her and the your guide - Dion I think - wheeled her in to the sanctuary. He assisted her superbly onto the boat - I was just so... More

We're a low decile primary school from West Auckland and fundraised for two years to take our tamariki to the South Island including four days on the West Coast. It took two days to get our group of 96 through so one bus went to Punakaiki and the other to Whataroa - then vice versa the next day. A huge... More

We have contemplated doing this tour for a number of years and finally did. This was a really special experience. From the jet boat ride to seeing New Zealands only nesting site for the Kotoku was really awesome. Our tour guide Dion was friendly yet professional with a wealth of knowledge. Must do!
