Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Initially had a flight booked out of franz josef but after waiting all day unable to fly due to low cloud. This company was recommended by our accommodation at checkout as we were passing through on the way to our next destination. Checked in was told they had flown the previous day and would take us up. The flight was amazing and the snow landing at the top of franz josef was incredible as we had now seen the start and end of the glacier
Would definitely recommend these guys even if the the franz josef or fox glacier flights are running and only 30 minutes out of franz josef.

This proved to be a jaw dropping experience that we were so happy to have signed up for. We did the 40 minute one that you do not get out of the helicopter onto the ice field but the "in your face" close ups of the mountain sides and the glaciers were more dramatic than I had ever dreamed. The star was the Franz Josef glacier but all of it combined was so much more. The pilot was full of information and his narration came thru very clearly on the headsets we wore. Like flying in a glass bowl!

After waiting for two days in Fox Glacier and Franz Josef, we finally boarded our helicopter flight for an amazing experience. Many thanks to Kevin and Heather who operate this family business. Their son Josh was an amazing pilot, Vanessa their daughter and two grandchildren, made us feel very welcome. I would highly recommend this company, do not wait at Fox Glacier or Franz Josef, drive 30 minutes up the road and have the greatest experience of your lives.

We took the flight from Whataroa as it was raining in Franz Josef.
The flight up the valley on such a beautiful morning is like entering another world - beautiful snow, glistening glaciers and landing on the ice, taking wonderful photos and seeing Mt Cook is really the experience of a lifetime.
Thank you Ken, you are a smooth and safety conscious pilot, and you provide such an informative commentary, and thanks Dee for telling us about the short drive up to the Whataroa heli-pad, otherwise we would have missed out. Thanks also to your ground staff.
We thoroughly recommend this trip to anyone wanting to see the alps and glaciers.

Travelling the West Coast there are plenty of helicopter operators that offer their trips into the alps, so how do you select. By shear accident we stoped at the Whataroa River valley contemplating a flight because it was such a beautiful day with perfect weather.
The advantage of leaving from this valley are not immediately obvious but when they explain that you travel along the Southern Alps from the north to see Mt Cook and the Tasman it becomes clearer. You get a better perspective of the scale of these mountains as you approach them and you don’t miss a thing. It is worth landing on the snow, so the logical stop is at the top on Franz Josef glacier where you photo options are amazing. The takeoff is not to bad either as you weave down the glazier above all those amazing ice structures.
These boys know what their are doing and have been doing it for some time, most definitely value for money and the best choice that we made. Enjoy.

They’re not in Fox or Franz Josef’s main strips and probably often overlooked which is a shame. We booked our flight a few weeks before but waking up in Franz Josef it was obvious the weather wasn’t great. We were kept up to date by Kevin all day and did some walks in the area instead (we had booked a morning skydive which had been postponed also). The clouds never lifted in Franz Josef and skydive was cancelled but as Whataroa was the way to our next destination we decided to swing by anyway, late afternoon. Because they’re kind of at the far end of the valley, they can quickly take a peek “around the corner” as often the weather on the other side is absolutely fine. We were told we could go and have a look in the helicopter but if the weather was too bad we’d come back and not be charged which seemed very fair. Lucky for us the weather was glorious and we managed to do the full tour. Pilot was excellent, very knowledgable and fun! Couldn’t recommend this company more. Beware of sandflies at their base though :)

Great flight
Great pilot
Great scenery
Great staff
Overall great experience!!
Away from the tourist towns but close to Mt Cook (New Zealand highest mountain) and many glaciers. Felt very safe when landing on Shackelton
Glacier. The pilot was very attentive to all six passengers. Highly recommend!

Absolutely incredible setup and team, you will be very well looked after and they give the best prices out there!. Myself and a buddy got choppered in to whymper hut (one of three options) by these ledgends for an epic tahr hunting adventure and could not ask for a better location, scenery, or team of people to be you're safety line. We got hit by some bad weather and were unable to fly out on our given day but boof (kevin) was a ledgend, tried to pull us out early and when that failed due to us not being at the hut he pulled us out at the next available opportunity. If you're a mountaineer', adventurer, or especially a big game hunter then the whataroa valley is the spot for you. We saw 15+ tahr, some huge bulls, and there were incredible peaks all around us. Absolutely epic trip and we will definitely be back!!!

We had the full Aoraki/Mt Cook and glacier landing experience for the longest, awe inspiring and best value flight in the area. Very welcoming, informal and professional hosts, manager father Kevin and pilot son Josh who also educates throughout the trip. Highly recommended!

Kevin is a friendly and easy-going guy who will work with your schedule and really listens to what you want to get out of your experience.
Ken is one of the best helicopter pilot in the business. He flies with the precision and confidence that would make any nervous passenger feel at ease.
I would definitely recommend them
