Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

So, this is what train travel was like in the late 1800s/early 1900s. It was an interesting ride, but my butt on the wooden seats was happy we were not going any more than 45 minutes (one way). The engine and train cars are immaculately kept up by the local train club. When the stop is made before the return trip, be sure to get off and watch as they reverse the engine, refill the water tank, and perform routine maintenance. Seats are not assigned. We picked some facing backwards for the outgoing leg, and facing forward on the return. The latter was better. Not sure kids would get much out of this activity, but for us senior citizens, it was fun. might be even better in the fall after the leaves have turned color.

We had a private charter from Haltingen to Kandern. The perfect weather helped but the trip was excellent regardless. With a few photo stops and run-pasts the train was seen at its best.
At Kandern we also had a brief visit to the loco shed.
Brilliant.

We had a great time last Sunday on the Kandertalbahn! We invited friends and their 2 year old to come along with us and everyone had a great time.
You can choose to either go from Kandern to Haltingen or from Haltingen to Kandern (or stop anywhere in between)!
For practical reasons, we chose to get on bord at Haltingen. Parking is easy to find and free on street. And we wanted to enjoy lunch in Kandern before heading back to Haltingen. But you can do it any way you want!
Practical tips:
- only operates on Sunday from the 5th of May to the 20th of October (2019)
- have cash ready (in euros only!) to pay for the train. 6€ each way per adult.
- prams can be taken on board, they will ask you to put them in the last wagon at the back
- only 3 trains from Kandern to Haltingen each way per day so don’t miss it!

Is a fun quick ride through the woods and countryside from Kandern to Binzen. You can hop off for ice cream and then hop back on when it returns. Or ride all the way down and back and enjoy walking through the little Black Forest town of Kandern.

We - few couples with kids under 4 years -did a tour from Binzen to Kandern. Great attraction for the kids and relaxing tour for the grown-ups. Cheap prices and kids pay half from 6 on. Baby stroller can be stored in the last wagon and you can buy drinks and souvenirs onboard. We enjoyed this authentic tour it a lot. May 1st (bank holiday) is a good day for it.

This steam train is fascinating and very enjoyable as such. However, unfortunately, talking to some locals it leaves a trail of soot and pollution behind. In short - experience 5 star, due to pollution I can only give 3 star.

A lovely steam railway in Germany but so near to both France and Switzerland. Can be visited by train, you don;t need a car to get to it. Runs through fairly gentle but attractive countryside to/from the nice town of Kandern, Beautifully restored wooden coaches and historic steam engines are used. Staff were friendly and helpful but, at times, need to be a bit more customer focused. The track had a number of "dipped joints" making for a bumpy ride at times. Easy to photograph too from the local roads.
