We had a wonderful two days staying in the Deluxe Suite - everything we needed. Barbara and Ian were excellent hosts, with Barbara looking after our day to day requirements (breakfast was amazing) and ensuring the bike ride was all booked. Ian took us on a most memorable night time bush walk. His knowledge of the plant and insect life and the environment was so informative. We totally recommend staying here. A fabulous experience.

Barbara and Ian were very accommodating for our stay, providing us much banter and incredibly hospitality. The spa pool was also very nice and the breakfast was amazing! Ian took us on our guided night walk where we got to hear the kiwi and owls in the night, and were introduced to all the plant and insect life in the Puketi Forest. It was breathtaking and informative, and a wonderful experience through and through. Highly recommended!

Ian is very knowledgeable. We learnt a lot more about our trees, flowers and fauna and birds. Understand more of How the eradication of pests are done and managed. A shame no kiwis that night but did hear some.

Thank you for your review, we are happy you enjoyed it. The understanding of ''Kiwi night walk'' as you called it, in Puketi which has up to 20,000 hectres of dense rain forest would never be guaranteed. Hence we do not use any promotional advertising or marketing with the word "see a Kiwi"

We were lucky enough to be taken through Puketi Forest by Ian for a memorable night walk. There was just the two of us and despite the appalling weather (well needed torrential rain for Northland!) we were treated to a couple of hours of very knowledgeable commentary about the flora & fauna of the area. Ian is obviously passionate about protecting this gem of a forest which was so fantastic to see. Whilst the rain made it hard to hear the birdlife at night (Morepork were out), Ian was quick to point out the spiders, weta, moths and eels, as well as the magnificent trees, ferns and other plants. We had headtorches to see the track & closer items and Ian had his own stronger torch to show us other points of interest. As a Kiwi couple, we learnt so much and on the final steps of our tour we believe (hope) we heard a Kiwi and we finally saw a massive Kauri Snail. Ian was able to answer our many questions and he had wonderful local knowledge and anecdotes from when he was a child roaming the forests. Such a shame to see Kauri dieback disease take hold of these incredible trees, but wonderful to have the washing stations at the entrance to hopefully prevent it's spread. Wear comfortable walking shoes, take a camera & be aware of uneven ground. Thank you to Ian for a very memorable evening. Thoroughly recommend.

Princess Cruise half-day Bay of Islands shore excursion "Puketi Forest Nature Walk" with Adventure Puketi. They'd overbooked our group (?) but Barbara, the owner was very accommodating and drove a small group of us in her car while the rest were in a mini-van. Top notch hospitality and interesting commentary on the drive. First stop was morning tea. Really delicious banana muffins and a welcomed coffee. Then it was on to the Puketi Forest walk with our guide Helen who was knowledgeable about the flora and fauna, great guide. It was a nice 1 hour or so walk, a breath of fresh air. Perfect weather as well. Wear comfy shoes. Found it an easy walk. There are steps (one or two quite high) and a short gravely-steep part, but everyone in our group managed. To protect the Kauri trees here from harmful bacteria that is spreading in other forests, there is a shoe-disinfectant process. Great organisation to go on a tour with.
