Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Adventure Puketi night tour was everything we hoped for and much more! Ian's passion and knowledge made the walking experience very enjoyable. To have a person take the time to point out and explain the little things as well as the history of the area, combined with personal experiences growing up here was invaluable. Barb's ability to connect and facilitate a biking tour was also incredibly helpful. We were also lucky enough to stay at Puketi Heights in a spacious two bedroom, clean and inviting accommodation. They are the most welcoming and down to earth hosts anyone could ask for. We highly recommend Puketi adventures and the people running it. We came as guests and left as friends.

Very simple to book, was able to have a tour the same night for just the two of us.
Guide Helen is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic with an in depth understanding of the area. Very engaging and happy to go along at your own pace, stopping for photos etc. Lucky enough to hear Kiwi calling, find a few Kauri snails and finished off with spotting a giant centipede digging an egg laying nest.

We took a full day eco-walk with Helen as our guide. She took us to trail we would never have visited as it was out of the way. Helen was the first guide I have ever been with who knew so much about the various insects we saw. It was like hiking with an entomologist. She also had an excellent knowledge of the local plants, birds and other animals. The lunch provided was very nice especially the muffins.

Barbara and Ian were very accommodating for our stay, providing us much banter and incredibly hospitality. The spa pool was also very nice and the breakfast was amazing!
Ian took us on our guided night walk where we got to hear the kiwi and owls in the night, and were introduced to all the plant and insect life in the Puketi Forest. It was breathtaking and informative, and a wonderful experience through and through. Highly recommended!

Barb and Ian were fantastic and looked after us from the moment we booked. There was just the 2 of us doing the night time hike with Ian. He was very passionate, incredibly knowledgeable and answered all of our questions while providing brilliant anecdotes with great humour. Would highly recommend.

How lucky my friends and I were to have Ian as both our accommodation co-host as well as our forest guide. As someone who grew up in the area, Ian is passionate about the richness of the Puketi Forest. He’s inspiring, knowledgeable and committed to its preservation, and he’s got a great sense of humour!

We also enjoyed staying with Ian and Barb at their lovely home. They were so welcoming and hospitable, providing us with everything we needed for our two-day stay.

Our experience at Adventure Puketi was unforgettable and one we'd highly recommend.

The guided night walk through the forest opened our eyes to a forest that we had never considered.
We would normally go during the day looking for birds.
We were introduced to a range of different creatures that are mostly nocturnal. Stick insects and Weta amongst them.
Our guide and all the staff were both, very friendly and enthusiastic, to show us the forest and explain how it is being protected and improved .

An excellent experience and well worth doing.

Fabulous evening walk, with the very knowledgeable guide Helen. She was very enthusiastic, and cares a lot for the forest - which really shined through the evening. Even though our children did not understand english, they had a wonderful time walking through the dark forest, and finding (and hearing about) a lot of New Zealands night creatures. We also had the pleasure of hearing both a Ruru and a Kiwi!

We had a wonderful two days staying in the Deluxe Suite - everything we needed. Barbara and Ian were excellent hosts, with Barbara looking after our day to day requirements (breakfast was amazing) and ensuring the bike ride was all booked. Ian took us on a most memorable night time bush walk. His knowledge of the plant and insect life and the environment was so informative. We totally recommend staying here. A fabulous experience.

Princess Cruise half-day Bay of Islands shore excursion "Puketi Forest Nature Walk" with Adventure Puketi.

They'd overbooked our group (?) but Barbara, the owner was very accommodating and drove a small group of us in her car while the rest were in a mini-van. Top notch hospitality and interesting commentary on the drive. First stop was morning tea. Really delicious banana muffins and a welcomed coffee.

Then it was on to the Puketi Forest walk with our guide Helen who was knowledgeable about the flora and fauna, great guide. It was a nice 1 hour or so walk, a breath of fresh air. Perfect weather as well.

Wear comfy shoes. Found it an easy walk. There are steps (one or two quite high) and a short gravely-steep part, but everyone in our group managed.

To protect the Kauri trees here from harmful bacteria that is spreading in other forests, there is a shoe-disinfectant process.

Great organisation to go on a tour with.
