Tour to the Vall de Nuria in Queralbs is a wonderful program for a full day
Mainly in sunny days ( don´t think about it for winter). From kids to older people, there is a program and an acitvity that fix for everyone.
Went as part of an organised trip and so took the rack-railway up to Nuria. Lovely views all the way up. At the top, there is an additional cable car ride (individual cars seating 6) up to the summit. Spectacular views of the mountains and...More

Unless you want a very long and steep hike, the only way to reach this attraction is to use the rack-railway which is, in itself, a fascinating experience. At the summit is a complex with shops restaurants etc, but also lots of gorgeous snow. When...More
Beautiful, quiet, serene place. Mountains were covered with snow and you can see majestic views especially from the train ride up to the mountain. The resort is pretty crowded as expected for a ski resort, but too bad it rained that day, otherwise the frozen...More

Yes you can do that. The trails are all fairly short just 1 to 4 hours max, though you could combine some. We got the train from Queralbs as we had a car. There is a hike from Murcia down to Queralbs about 8kms and you can get the train back. There is a nice hike of about 2hrs in the higher country from near the campsite and it comes out at the bottom of the nuria lake. We did both. Another good hike is on the Engineers track from the top of the gondola and it intersects with the nuria-queralbs Trac. We only did part of that. The information centre at Murcia is excellent with maps and advice. You do not need a guide but may need wet weather clothes. Have a great time!!
We too were train-only, no car.

On the advice of the Tourist Information lady on La Rambla, we took the train from Barcelona to Ribes de Freser (the Freser River runs thru town) and stayed at the lovely Els Cacadores on the upper side of town – stay on the train all the way to the Ribes Vila stop (end of the line). Very nice people in this family-run hotel, going back several generations. "Friendly staff and great amenities in the hotel - the roof top patio, jacuzzi and luna lounge were top highlights! We greatly enjoyed our stay and would happily recommend this to anyone traveling in the area." Very reasonable price and a beautiful view up the valley from our room!
Ate in their restaurant - they serve dinner late, yes, but that's Spain for you. Another dinner at the hotel at the bottom of town (Hotel St Antoni) meal was not noteworthy, so the wait for the later serving was worth it!
Then we took the cog railway from Ribes to Val de Nuria, got a trail map from the information booth inside. Hiked up into the Pyrenees on the Noufonts trail which was my favorite day of our whole 2 week trip! We saw shaggy horses, cows, and even chamois! Circled over to the Alberg (terminus for the funicular) and walked down on the 12 stations of the cross Noucrous trail. Came back to the ski house in time for a sandwich and tea, then a walk around the lake and caught the last cog train down the hill.
