Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Haast is a remote community which most people just drive through on the highway. It is worth stopping to have a look - both the river and beach are impressive. However, if you don't like sandflies it is best to keep your windows shut and keep on driving

Go at low tide to walk the firm sand and enjoy the sound of the surf. Most interesting collection of drift wood I’ve ever seen and the beach grasses and mountain backdrop make a very photogenic mix. Almost constant breeze which limits the sandflies.

We went for wander along the beach. Lots of driftwood and stones - found plenty of greenstone (well they were stones and they were green!) - very pleasant conditions to walk in - would suggest barefeet as shoes picked up lots of sand - just make sure you have shoes before trying to walk on the road as the surface is kind of rough. Very peaceful - recommend (on a fine day anyway)

My wife and I were on a tour and stopped here for a break. The beach was lovely and the weather was excellent for being outdoors.

A little track through to a stunning part of the beach - definitely the wild west. It was full of amazing drift wood

We could hear the waves crashing onto the beach so went to check it out, what we saw was driftwood covering a fair amount of the sand someone had started to make Indian teepees which lightened our mood. The sand flies were out in force so we made a hasty retreat!
