Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A 40-minute return track that allows a reverse perspective on your walk in. Well formed path, with just two boggy areas (easily skirted). A series of sturdy foot bridges. Track ends rather abruptly with a picnic table and lookout point. No formed track around the lake. Back at the carpark, take the time to walk down to the confluence of the Ellery Creek and Jackson River.

A stunning one hour return walk terminating at a beautiful lookout point over the lake.
You follow the walking track alongside Ellery Stream until it reaches the lake, watch for ducks, fantails and tomtits along the way.

Take the turn off the main road to enjoy this lovely short forest walk that follows a peaceful meandering creek with lots of native bush, tree ferns and bird sounds. Worthy of the detour.

It is a nice walk along the river to a pretty little lake. The track just goes to the lake where there is a small viewing area. We only saw one other group on the trail in an 90 minutes. You have to go about 5 km. down a gravel road to reach it.

Recommended by the motel owner, we went to Lake Ellery. The track was well formed, very easy walk. The lake was beautiful with reflections of trees. We had a lovely time there.

This is one of the most attractive lakes on South Island, although you can only travel along one side upon a publicly available road.

A pleasant walk off the beaten track through the forest to a glacier-formed lake. Allow an hour return.
