Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a gentle walk through a lovely forest. I particularly love these particular tree ferns with the dead fronds that drape down and look like a hula skirt around the trunk. The car park is quite large compared to the Thunder Falls and the quite compact Fantail Falls

Easy walk through a nice bush from the car park on State Highway 6 on the way from Haast to Wanaka. A good first stop stop on the journey.

The falls are on the other bank of the river, yet nice to see and listen to.

There are far better falls to visit but we visited during a very dry period. Time better spent at Blur Pools or Thunder Creek

Roaring Billy Falls is the most distant of the many waterfalls you can stop at along the Haast Pass.
It’s also the biggest, but the closest you can get is by crossing a long rocky riverbed on the opposite of the falls so the view is a little distant.
Still, the walk here is superb, about 15 mins each way through a lovely patch of rainforest on a flat track that anyone can do, and then you can view the falls from the track, or scramble down to the riverbed to get closer.
The car park is well signposted, about 23 mins from Haast on the left, and then 15 mins walk to the end of the track.

Didn’t find this waterfall that impressive but this is likely to be as has been quite dry and not much rain in the days or months preceding our visit. The falls are loud as they cascade over large rocks on the high steep river bank. Wide cobbled river bank need to walk over to get closer look to waterfall. I will have to come on a future trip after rain as it would be a spectacular sight then I would think

A pleasant short walk in nice foliage. Falls were disappointing due to the lack of recent rain. We enjoyed the birdlife - never seen so many tomtits! Nice short stop on a long West Coast drive.

Thank you for the review. The falls are amazing during or after rain and as you've noted we've had a very dry (but lovely summer),. The forest walk is beautiful in any weather.

Had a lovely hīkoi to the falls. We have passed this way a few times and said we needed to go and visit. So glad we did.

This walk is really all about the gorgeous tree ferns of all ages, sizes and heights. It's like a 'tree fern grotto' and feels very 'other worldly'. Definitely worthy of the stop

Pretty and a good place to try skipping stones. Bush walk is pleasant . They aren't the most popular stop for some reason - they are very good for a break and worth visiting
