This is just a tourist trap, the animals aren’t respected at all!! The elephants are enchained, chains that are hidden with leaves. They swing the head continuously, which is a symptom of a high level of stress. One elephant is obliged to lie in the water in order to be washed, which is very unhealthy for its skin. Unfortunately, the tourists are not aware of this and are very happy to approach these wonderful animals. Everybody is asking for a tip and please do not talk about the museum, a couple of battered boards with a few self-evidences!! This is not a conservation foundation but a hideous exploitation activity. Don’t go there! Please!

It was an amazing experience at MEF joining them for the half day volunteer programme starting the day off preparing and feeding medicine balls to the elephants and then cleaning their beds and then going on a walk with an elephant and finnally Bathing him. Not to forget the amazing lunch as well. The MEF does not promote elephant riding and hence has introduced the walk with an elephant experience. All they adapt a chain free approach on most of their elephants for a major part of the day. This is a must visit for all the elephants lovers.😍❤️👌

Having spent a day here the previous year, I wanted to spend a week. The experience was wonderful I was made to feel very welcome, the workload was as much as I wanted, the people were very friendly and helpful, the activities were varied and memorable, and the food was great. I haven't even got as far as the elephant experience! Seeing them being cared for, scrubbing them, checking on their health made this a trip I would love to carry out again. If you are considering staying here, I would strongly recommend you give it a go.

I went for a half day volunteering session with Millennium Elephant Foundation Sri Lanka on July 2020. It was unique experience for me. The management, staff and the rest of the volunteers are very friendly and always with me while volunteering with elephants. A mandatory place for all elephant lovers to visit 🐘💖.
