Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Fellhorn Bahn closed today...we wanted to go to Kanzelwand...extra charge of...16 € for the bus for 3!!! Should we fly there? By car, 5 € parking ticket...plus the bus connections are far too long...overcrowded several times...never again...

I came here for nostalgia, I worked out here in the late 90's as a military ski instructor and wanted to see if it was as I still imagined it. Not much had changed it's relatively affordable as skiing goes, I bought a season pass for my 5 weeks skiing. I wouldn't go solo again, the locals are not that warm/welcoming and the skiing can be fickle as in no snow or poor conditions especially later (March) in the season, but I did it and tried it, I'll go higher in the future, Austria and Italy which apparently are very welcoming. If I was with a partner or friends then it may of been better.

We took the Kanzelwandbahn cable car up with the children, aged 4 and 6 (very nice view) and wanted to walk the panoramic circular route.
Halfway there we noticed the time. We only made it as far as the Fellhornbahn cable car! Then we went down and took the bus back.
Tip: you have to keep in mind when the last cable cars leave.

We stayed in Oberstdorf and had the visitor card, so the cable cars were free, possibly a little bit pricey without, but worthwhile all the same.
We took the bus to Reizlern and then the amazing cable car to the top of the kanzelwand. The views are stunning and if you're not up to a hike the sun trap at the top might be worth it too.
We hiked down from the bahn station, and then up to the top of the fellhorn. The view from the top of the fellhorn is even better. With Austria one side and Germany the other its breathtaking.
We then walked down to the middle station and as the cable cars were free, we decided to go back up to the top and then back down to the bottom in the cable car.
Saw lots of Marmots and other wildlife. And from the bottom we took a steady walk back to Oberstdorf. Our favourite day in one of our favourite areas.

The best way to the top of these two mountains is by cable car – from the German side using the Fellhornbahn, or from the Austrian side using the Kanzelwandbahn. It takes 90 minutes to walk between the two cable car stations at the top, and the views over the mountains are very rewarding. It is possible to get a bus to the Fellhornbahn and get the cable car up, walk to the top of the Kanzelwandbahn, then take that cable car down and get a bus back, or vice versa. Busses are timetabled to run every 10-15 minutes, and anyone using bus travel frequently should buy a travel card which costs €15 for 4 days, €19 for 7 days or €28 for 14 days, as bus transport is expensive.
At the top a the Fellhornbahn it is worth taking 15 minutes to walk to the top of the Fellhorn, and at the Kanzelwandbahn it takes 30 minutes to get to the top of the Kanzelwand. It is well worth the effort in both cases as the views are excellent.
Both cable car ascents cost €19, €15 for the descent and €25.50 ascent and descent. However, these cable cars are included in the Oberstdorf Sommer Bergbahnticket Inklusive deal, and are free when you book your holiday with some hotels or holiday apartments. Parking is free at the Fellhornbahn car park with this deal, but costs €5 at the Kanzelwandbahn car park. A €2 detachable part of the ticket can be used in hilltop restaurants or can be refunded at the kiosk.

Steepest blue slopes I've seen, but very enjoyable. Amazing views on top of that. Tried some of the Red slopes but much more difficult than Sollereck (too difficult for me). Recommend a visit!

we were off for a couple of days walking in the high alps. This is the easiest way to cut out 1700m + of hard slog.
It lies about 10 minutes drive out of Oberstdorf, could not be easier to find. There are extensive car parks, it cost us 24 euros one way(2012)and the walk down to the same point was absolutely delightful. Massive cable cars too we stopped at mittel tag where there is a nice restaurant. Also a great bar at the foot of the lift.

Great ski area, gives you the opportunity to ski in two countries in one day. The off piste skiing is amazing on a powder day, so much skiable terrain.

On a very sunny and warm day in May 2017 we took the bus from Oberstdorf to the Fellhornbahn. As we had a Gästecard it is free to go all the way to the top from which you can enjoy wonderful views of the surrounding mountains.

Hi,
I've been skiing in this region twice before but not been to the Fellhorn yet, I was wondering how the Apres ski is there? I know this region is not really known for it post-ski partying but I know that the bar at Balderschwang gets pretty lively over the weekends and was wondering if the same is true for the Felhorn?

Won't be able to help you here. Always was here before the ski-season started...
