Very disappointed!!!
Why does our dog need a muzzle, where it goes in numerous other mountain railways without???
The muzzled ride was pure stress for us and our actually dear, human-friendly dog. She knows mountain railway riding from a young age and is actually very chilled there. Muzzled, she lay whimpering and shaking on the floor of the cabin.
We understand it well when people are afraid of dogs, however, it would be possible for them to take another cabin where no dog rides...
Also annoying was the fact that we had to buy the muzzle on top of the expensive price of the mountain railway. At least it should be free if you want a muzzle obligation.
Unfortunately, we will choose other cable cars in the future, without muzzling, because the ride was really no fun !

We went skiing on the mountain at the end of February. Unfortunately, it is quite complicated to find out which type of ski pass is best. The so-called MyMountain Club gives you a discount on the ski pass if you buy it online. However, not all types can be bought online. Registering with the club was also quite complicated, as the cable car website is unfortunately confusing. It is incomprehensible why you have to register with the club before you can buy something online. The ski pass was expensive in terms of value for money for a small ski area. It makes little sense that you pay 67 euros for a 3-hour ski pass, only to get around x euros back after the day of skiing is over and you have really only skied for 3 hours. It was unclear to us how the time was measured exactly. It was the entry into the gondola at the top when the valley run is closed. As can be seen from the piste map, there are only a few pistes. If the valley run is closed, the ski area is not worth the money.

Great excursion destination with an exceptional view (in good weather), with hiking opportunities (easy to challenging). WITHOUT the Allgäu Walser Card Premium(!) very expensive for using the cable cars, especially for families (3-4 people)

The Nebelhorn is a beautiful hiking area with great views. The railway uphill has a total of three stations, from where you can take hikes with different difficulties and lengths. The trails are well signposted. The gastronomy on the two cabins we tried is priced okay. Definitely worth it!

The foghorn has captivated me. The gondola ride was the first highlight. The middle station impresses with an alpine lake. Once at the top you cannot escape the view of the mountain. From here you look down and discover the beautiful Oberstdorf.

The second highlight was a tandem gliding flight with Peter Geg Oase flight school from Obermaiselstein.
I've never experienced anything so unique. We flew over the tops of the left mountain range, you felt as free as an eagle flying its territory in the air.

Nebelhorn: A Journey from Clouds to Summit
The ascent to Nebelhorn's peak is a truly awe-inspiring experience. The journey begins with a cable car ride that plunges you into a world of clouds, only to dramatically emerge into brilliant sunlight—a breathtaking contrast that sets the tone for the adventure ahead.
From the second station, the real challenge begins. A narrow pathway leads you on a steep climb towards the summit of 2000 metres. The ascent is demanding, but the stunning vistas of surrounding mountains and dizzying slopes keep you enthralled at every step. The path's steepness and exposure may test those with a fear of heights, but the payoff is well worth the effort.
Upon reaching the summit, you're rewarded with panoramic views that showcase nature's raw beauty. The newly constructed viewing area offers an unobstructed perspective of the opposite side of the mountain, adding another dimension to the experience.
Nebelhorn delivers a perfect blend of natural wonder and physical challenge. From the surreal cable car ride to the exhilarating climb and the expansive summit views, it's an adventure that leaves you with a profound appreciation for the majesty of the Alps.

The railway itself is very modern and therefore the ascent is already an experience. Once at the mountain station you can take a second cable car to the summit station, which you should definitely do. Above you are rewarded with a very impressive panorama.
There are also numerous hiking opportunities from the various stations.

Costs have gone up over the years. 41 euros for an adult!
Amazing views and the various cables cars are exciting to ride. Great restaurants at the top. Nice hot chocolate!
Ok for the kids, but they don't get full benefit if there too young. Nice play area at the top.
A must if your in the area👍👌

This review is about the hike to/from the summit of the Nebelhorn that also includes a ride on the cable car for some parts of the trip.

The Nebelhorn cable car line is separated into three segments with four stations to get on and off: There is the lower terminus, located in the outskirts of Oberstdorf, the upper terminus on the Nebelhorn summit and the two middle stations, “Seealpe” and “Höfatsblick”.
Actually every station is a terminus or final station, since each segment of the entire line ends there and you must change into another cabin, in order to go to the next station.

The nice thing is that you can piece together a roundtrip to the summit and back according to your own preferences.

There are several reasons to hike up (or down) some of the segments or take a ride on the cable car to skip others. I for example have problems with my knees and can hardly walk down a mountain, but hiking up the whole day is no problem. So I usually take a cable car only for a descent from a summit. Another reason is that I consider the middle part of the Nebelhorn hike – from “Seeaple” to “Höfatsblick” – as rather boring since it follows an asphalt road, big enough for cars to drive up easily.

You can also interrupt your ascent at each station to eat at the restaurants for as long as you want. There is no departure time on your tickets. Just make sure that you catch the last ride of the day! Check the web site for operating hours.

Anyway, we started our ascent to the Nebelhorn summit right next to the Schattenberg Ski Jumping Hill and headed straight into the Faltenbachtobel. The small river “Faltenbach” created a ravine (“Tobel” in German) that is very beautiful, a little challenging and it offers many good photo opportunities.
It leads you directly to the “Seealpe” station, from where we took a ride to “Höfatsblick”, skipping the paved road. To avoid another (gravel) road, make sure to continue the final push for the summit on the “Gratweg” (ridge way) with its stunning views. It starts near the Höfatsblick-Station.

For the way down we booked rides for two of the three segments: “Höfatsblick” to “Seealpe”, where we spent an hour at the “Berggasthof Seealpe” for coffee and cake and continued our descent with a final ride to the lower terminus in town. Shortly before arrival you have a great view onto the Schattenberg Ski Jumping Hill. By the way: The Nebelhornbahn does not stop operating while ski jumping events are in progress, even though the cabins pass right on top of the run-off area, in sight of the competitors during their jumps.

Please note that the cable car operates all year round, but hike is not possible during winter and early spring. The Faltenbachtobel is inaccessible due to snow and therefore blocked for the public. The rest of the hike is a ski slope until the thawing period is over. In 2018 that was at the end of May.

this is of course a great place, with great views, as lots of poeple point out. However, stay away on busy days during the summer, or come really really early.

There is no management of parking spaces, so if you get stuck in a traffic jam, on the way to Oberstdorf, you will spend 30 minutes looking for a parking spot.

Then you'll park 15 minutes away, at a legal place, and hike to the cable car. There, you can well find a queue that runs for two hours.

So: go early, go on off-season days. Don't count on the management to do much to manage the queues, or give information, or manage parking. Really regrettable.
