Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This shop, situated just off the square in the old town, belongs to one of the Michelin restuarants. Perhaps not surprising therefore that it stocks a wide rang of interesting cheeses. Their rang of wines was less interesting but good enough. Service was absolutely charming, helpful and in fluent English

Co-owned by the excellent, highly rated nearby Le Channel restaurant. Great range of cheese and limited, expensive range of French wines. You can park right outside the shop free for 15 minutes. Watch out for the lunch 'hour' though, which runs from 1230 to 1500!

A fabulous selection of French cheeses from all over the country.
Don't be put off if you can't speak French too well. They will be more than happy to let you muddle away in school French without embarrassing you or they will try their English.
You don't have to buy a full 'wheel' as they cut all the cheeses to your requirement.
Much better selection than Carrefour.
It's open 7 days a week but closes for a long lunch during the weekdays. Best to go on Saturday as it's open non-stop all day.
Best of all is they are allowed to sell cheeses made from 'Lait Cru' (unpasteurised milk) which are difficult (impossible now?) to get if they go outside the domestic market.

We were passing by and noticed this shop and my son and daughter ran to the door only to find it was closed as we were a few minutes late however the lady opened up for us and was extremely welcoming and forgiving of my atrocious French language skills.
She advised us on what cheeses to buy after listening to what we like and even gave free samples to the kids.
This is one of those rare gems of a shop, where they care more about what you want and that you leave happy than taking your money.
If you visit Calais, you should go to La Maison Du Fromage et des Vins and engage the wonderful staff and buy twice what you'd normally eat as it is so good.

An excellent place to buy good wine and cheese at reasonable prices. The staff are helpful and friendly. We haven't drank the wine yet, but the cheese was amazing.

We visited this shop in July 2013. I need of parking advice we asked the nice ladies behind the counter for help, and so did. A wonderful shop if you are interested in quality cheese, wine, liquor and super service.

traditional cheese shop, a rare thing these days. Well worth going to get cheese here instead of big supermarkets

If you're in Calais then definitely add this place to your "must visit" list.

The staff are great, speak good English but also encourage you to "have a go" with your French.

The cheeses are superb (not tried the wine!), and priced reasonably too. There's the traditional soft cheeses here but also a good selection of harder cheeses for those who prefer the harder style (I do!).

Recommend trying the Pyrenees cheese as it's great, kind of a cross between Edam and Cheddar but nicer than either.

The attention you receive from the owner, Eirlys, and the other staff is excellent. The shop provides cheese to some local restaurants. During our stay at one of these restaurants we sampled some superb cheeses. We asked where the cheese was purchased and visited the shop the next day. The advice on which cheeses frweeze well etc has always been spot on!

The Camambert with calvados was superb!!! We have also purchased wine and confit de vin (jam made with wine) which is rather difficult to find. We are returning soon for the fifth year running and will be collecting the Bread to accompany the cheese from the market stalls in the square opposite the shop. This shop is highly recommended.
