So this church was rebuilt after the war. It was built in the style of the great cathedrals throughout France. Being newer, it is a lot lighter in color and a lot brighter inside. This church is next to the abbaye. After seeing all the...More

This Cathedral, built in classical style replaces the earlier one destroyed in World War 1. It’s soaring Corinthian pillars topped in places by enormous stone vases give the whole place a wonderful feeling of space and light. There are few sculptures and the plain interior...More

Feels like a very large space for the size of town. Lots of beauty to look at inside and out. Really enjoyed the tranquillity of the place.

This cathedral (originally the Abbey church of St-Vaast next-door) was severely damaged/destroyed during French revolution and both world wars (WWI and WW2) - the cathedral has been re-built and restored in all its beauty and is truly worthwhile a visit !

Excellent restoration of cathedral badly damaged in the French revolution and WWI. The sculptures of saints inside are very impressive. A round mirror is set up so that you can get an excellent view of the beautiful ceiling in the one chapel without having to...More
