Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Lovely Christmas market and Saturday local produce market. Well worth a visit for all the family and couples alike. We particularly enjoyed the hospitality at Dame Jeanne a fantastic little wine bar and small plates

Larger that the Place du Heroes nearby but marred by being a car park during the day. Several eateries and bars but its size never really allows it to generate the same vibe as its smaller neighbour.

During the day, this great square is marred by the fact that it is used as a car park. Makes what would otherwise be a great civix square quite unsightly. A good example of BAD decision making by urban planners. Fortunately, at night the cars mostly have disappeared, and the square is brightly lit. So feels like a different place altogether!

Hard to believe these buildings were rebuilt after the war. The whole square looks like a typical Hanseatic city from a few centuries ago. And, the area is quite functional: stroll the various shops and sample the wares. Or, have a meal and people watch. Whatever you choose, it'll be a pleasant and interesting few hours.

The middle of the square is now a huge parking lot. There is an underground parking lot on the same location. It is a paid parking lot. The square is surrounded by old historical buildings that now accommodate all sort of burrows, from stores to private apartments. This is pretty much the entrance of the city, from there you can walk!
Arras, in my opinion, it is not the most beautiful city. However, it is indeed a very interesting city. First, it was located in the middle of WWI conflict. Second, as it is located relatively close to the Belgium border is influenced by the Dutch architecture and food.

One of two fabulous squares in Arras, mostly rebuilt following their destruction during the war. Hard to comprehend that the buildings aren't actually that old. A wonderful place for wandering, having a drink, lunch or dinner, exploring off the few side streets.
There was no market when we visited, but I can imagine the atmosphere with a market, especially at Christmas.

We ended up in Arras because we wanted to visit Vimy Ridge. Luckily we had time to wander the streets of Arras to view the (mostly rebuilt) old town and the stunning square. Photos don't do it justice. A very impressive square made charming by the bakeries, shops and restaurants lining it. Enjoy some refreshments and watch the world go by...

We came from Lille Christmas Market where we stayed. That was great.
We went to Arras on our way home and was pleasantly surprised how lovely Arras centre is and the market is huge and lots of space
We bought a few Christmas things but were disappointed with food from the stalls to take home
The French local cured sausages we bought were terrible and were only good to use as a Baton as they were solid and too old to use - all went in the bin
The cheese we bought (Morbier) was just okay but not as good as same type we buy in UK supermarket and cost 50% more. also once they cut a piece for you, you have to buy it - or they start being intimidating and nasty
We would go again but wouldnt buy any fresh food or produce as they are just there to Con the Tourists

I booked ages ago to stay at the Ibis hotel, just off Grand Place, but we had no idea it would be such a big event. It takes about an hour from Calais and we drive without any hassle to the underground car park at Grand Place. The hotel is one minute off the square and serves a brilliant breakfast as well as being super cheap.
The squares are all decorated fabulously. Different themes in each square, with Christmas carols playing from loudspeakers all around. Our son loved the ice world and the sledge ride. It was all great. Lots of food and drinks places as well as slots of bars and restaurants. There was a little champagne bar which I also quite liked. Great place, so much going on.

We visited for the Christmas market. Worth a visit although the Christmas market is quite small. Great restaurants all round which were a reasonable price.

Does anyone know if there are any events planned for New Years Eve in Arras? or if there are any good resturants that would offer a NYE event with music?
