Good place to visit and learn a bit of a French Arts history and see some of the greatest paintings. The Musee is relatively small, hence you can see all paintings in about 1.5 hours.

We stayed in Arras while touring WW1 battlefields and really didn't intend to do anything but climb the belfry. When we found the belfry was closed we looked for something else and wow we won the lottery. It is a great but quiet museum with...More

On our visit there was an extraordinary exhibition of Napoleonic portraiture on loan from the Louvre. Fantastic, if like me you are interested in that period of history.

It was amazing to find such an important collection in a small rural centre. Many of the paintings were very well known and they told the story of Napoleon’s life and career. It showed Napoleon to be very aware of the importance of self- promotion....More

It really was a coincidence that we were visiting Arras over the first weekend of the month but the free entry to this museum enticed us to visit. Particularly interesting in May 18 as a special exhibition was in place depicting Napoleon - this was...More

Although Arras was in the middle of their big sausage festival the Musee des beaux-arts was open, and entry was free. Not really any "old masters" but I often enjoy galleries with local artists' work more, and this was the case. Some stunning Baglione paintings...More

There is an entrance fee (€7/€4), although the museum is free on the first Sunday of each month. Access to the ground floor is okay but I'm not sure about the upper floor.
