Famous for being the birthplace of Ovid, the roman poet. Sulmona is also famous for its confetti, or sugar coated almonds, and its historical city center with some historic buildings including, churches, palaces and fountains.

We spent a few hours wandering in the peaceful town of Sulmona, brightened up by the famous confetti shops - I didn't realise how many there would be! Enjoyed having a coffee overlooking the main piazza with its famous acqueduct. Definitely a place to relax,...More

Sulmona like all of this region is steeped in history. Getting past all the walls, portas, and churches the town has a wonderful, fairly lively family feel. As advertised people here are very warm and helpful. This is a very provincial area surrounded by extraordinary...More

The aquaduct is amazing and has surprisingly delicious water but the central square fountain could use more upkeep.

We were here for 5 days walking and exploring Majella National Park. Sulmona has a lovely if slightly run down centro storico worth a morning or afternoon to explore. The bars and restaurants are fine if a little lacking in sophistication and genuine choice.

I spent 3 days and 2 nights to see the Easter processions which are truly moving and impressive. The town per se is full of endearing buildings and small treasures.

We stayed in a restored 14th century "palace" in the old town, a couple of minutes' walk from the main street where every evening the locals come out and walk up and down, socialise and maybe eat a gelati, or sit and watch the younger...More

The city of Sulmona is absolutely astonishing. Her historical centre is worthy a neighbourhood of ancient Roma. With its charming alleys, wonderful old buildings and the typical southern italian vibe, Sulmona is a fabulous gem off the beaten path. If you want a real italian...More
