We waked to Chiesa di San Ponziano but it was closed. We enjoyed the grounds and the view from there. The outside was historic and it was a shame we were not able to tour.

Such a remarkable building but unfortunately we were only able to walk round the outside as it was very firmly closed. Will try to visit again in Summer.

The high rating is just for the crypt, as we felt that the Baroque "improvements" in the church destroyed a beautiful Romanesque structure. The crypt, however, is unspoiled, and the two enigmatically shaped pillars are, by themselves, worth the trip beyond the walls.
