A good drive out of Rovereto up the hillside to the location. However, it was worth the drive as the views from the bell were great. Art displays and areas to walk around outside.

Second day trip to beautiful Rovereto and right on time caught Bus No 7 from stop outside Tourist Office. Scenic journey of about 20 mins with great driver and all the locals. Bus left at 10.03 so planned to catch the 12,24 back . (Not Sundays though) Wonderfully welcoming staff as is the norm in wonderful Trentino ! Entrance is included with the Trentino Card. Didn't even know about the Pilgrimage Path until the wonderful photos in the Main Hall. Excellent video in English gives you all the 'bellground' and is highly emotive as is the whole site ! The Bell of course in its serene setting . The Art Gallery should not be missed as you see how artists, famous and not so famous have been inspired by the Bell. The 'Parco della Memoria' not only explains the History but also the many famous visitors and ceremonies held over the years. Not one for souvenirs but had to break a habit here . Thanks to wonderful desk staff who told me that the Civic Museum was open all day (tourist leaflets said the opposite). Bus arrived right on time to take me back to Rovereto Centre,. A totally unique experience. Not just a cool souvenir on my cold fridge front but a 'perma'- nent reminder of the humble priest Don Rossaro and his bronze bell, now for the billions of humanity to hear !

A bus (number 7 if I remember correctly) from the centre of Rovereto was our first choice, but – at the time of our visit – they ran very infrequently (every two hours, I think), and we’d just missed one. The lady in the tourist office dismissed the very idea of the uphill walk (“perhaps you could walk back down”, she suggested, as she gazed upon the obvious greyness of our hair) but we reckoned it wasn’t worth waiting, so we set off. We are used to walking. It took us ... well, I’m not sure exactly, but perhaps around 90 minutes to reach the bell from the town centre. We followed the main road up out of town, and the route was obvious, not least because of the number 7 bus-stops every few hundred yards. In any event, we beat the bus to the bell. There were very few people around. The ticket desk receptionist kindly led us to a room where we watched a video (in English) explaining the history of the bell, which we found interesting. Then we meandered around the exhibitions. The bell itself is set overlooking the valley, with excellent views. Afterwards, we strolled down a steepish section of the Path of Peace, through woods, immediately adjoining the entrance to the site, where – after several minutes – we joined a paved road. At that point, we decided to make a side-trip to the mausoleum, before returning along the road back into Rovereto. A good day’s activity.

The bell was made in 1924 from the bronze of the cannons of all the nations participating in the First World War. It was designed based on the idea of the Roveretan priest Antonio Rossaro and placed on the Malipiero tower in the castle. The bell was moved here in 1965 when the whole complex was built to host it. The whole place is very moving, well organized with fantastic view.
