Travelling on a coach from Sorrento to Positano, the Grotta di Fornillo was pointed out to us. Even the guide did not deem it worthy of stopping to look at this miniature representation of Positano carved into the rock. Miss it.

This is visible on the right side of the road at the main access to Positano from Sorrento. Frankly there is nothing really special about it and, if you don't see, you will have missed nothing that interesting.

We walked past the Grotta on the was down to the city. Careful work was being done on it. It would be neat to see it with all the plants flowering. I guess we need to come back!!

As you drive into Positano look out for this clutch of little buildings cut into the rock face, forming a most unusual village. If you have a chance to stop, it is well worth strolling back and taking a closer look. Especially over the Christmas...More

Positano is built into a rocky hillside on the coast. With only one way down into town and one way up and out you have to pass by my "rock altar" , Grotta di Fornillo. Just like the rest of town it is quite unique....More

On the internal road into Positano on a large bed you will find this huge overhanging rock with lots of little shrines and miniature houses many of which contain candles. It makes a lovely sight and is an unusual find in an area like this....More

This is such a beautiful place to visit due to the work it involved in creating it. Unfortunately there is no writing to indicate it's purpose or its background.

We found this place after walking up the steps from the Fornillo beach. We had read about it but had no idea where it was. It is as lovely as everyone else describes. You'd only look at it for 5 mins or so but it...More
