The main attractions at Paestum are the Greek temples which are remarkably intact. The more recent Roman addition to the site - the amphitheatre built around 2000 years ago - has been split in two by a modern road and only the remains of the...More

The archeological park is really special and it's a great opportunity to learn and understand the Greek political and cultural expansion in Italy. Do miss the local museum.

The amphitheatre is quite spectacular and stands out with the temples amongst the vast ruins of Paestum

You will need at least 2-3 hrs to take in much if not all Paestum. This a small amphitheater that could be easy to miss.

This is probably the weakest bit of an otherwise excellent site. There is not much there that is original, half the thing is hidden under the modern road.

Not very large, but interesting to see. In fact, only HALF is visible today.... The amphitheater is part of the entire ' town' of which the remains are visible today.

Paestum is a large site of which this is only a tiny but fascinating part. Allow about two hours to walk round the whole site plus another hour for the museum. Well worth a detour.

It's tough being the Anfiteatro Romano Di Paestum: a little like being the kebab place situated in the full range of primary ristorantes in a major Tuscan town. Were this structure found in a small southern town of Calabria or Puglia with far less categorical...More

Not much is left of the amphitheater and only about a half of it is excavated. Judging by the remaining passageway the building had to be some 30-40 feet high. Some photographs posted here depict not the amphitheater but another structure situated nearby. The pictures...More
