Just outside the old city walls of Montepulciano sits this lovely 16th-century Renaissance church. It's amazing to see it from a distance in the sunlight. The interior is very impressive as well.

We visited San Biagio while on a long walk around Montepulciano. I'm not a "church person" but this was an exception. Really dramatic and the audio tour is complete and clear. If you're near Montepulciano...it's a must.

3.50 euros admission fee also gives you the head phone commentary on this pretty little cross shaped temple designed by Antonio da Sangallo. It is situated outside the city walls so there is easy parking. Go about lunch time before any coaches arrive.

I think that Antonio di Sangallo the Elder imagined this Temple as a continuity from Greek classical period to Renaissance

Construction on the Renaissance Greek cross architectural style church began in 1518, merely 17 years after Michelangelo unveiled the incredible “David” sculpture. It was designed by Antonio da Sangallo the Elder. The same plan, based on Brunelleschi’s works, was used for the Bramante-Michelangelo design for...More
