We absolutely loved this tour. We didn't really know what to expect but Alistair was so good at explaining everything and we saw the most fantastic planets through his telescope. The moon was amazing through the telescope as well, we were so amazed by all the details we could see:) Would definitely recommend going here and even stay a night... More

My boyfriend and I had such a good time that I felt compelled to write my first review. The tour is run by Alastair at his very well equipped house. I thought it was strange at first but its actually the perfect location. If you come from a busy city (I'm from NYC), this is a must see because you... More

Hi Lisa, Many thanks for your kind words...it's quite an honour to be the subject of your first review! I'm glad you enjoyed the stargazing tour under our very dark skies. You certainly had a good clear night. So clear you even saw 1 million stars! (Globular cluster 47 Tucanae [NGC104], only visible in the southern hemisphere). Cheers, Alastair More

Many thanks for your kind review. We're glad you enjoyed the tour...you certainly had a good clear night to enjoy our dark skies here. Have you visited the Children's Natural History Museum in Fremont? I forgot to mention it to you when you were here. After driving up from Rotorua, using the route recommended by Paul at “New Zealand in Depth”, we were delighted to be greeted by Harriette and Alastair in their beautiful B&B. On the first night, we stayed in their self-catering Miner's Cottage - a very comfortable home with all modern amenities. We asked about restaurants in the area and Alastair directed... More

Many thanks for your kind review. Glad to hear that you enjoyed the tour...I seem to remember you had a lovely clear night but not everyone gets a chance to see the International Space Station as well! Good to know that you enjoyed some of the other attractions our area has to offer also...as you know there's lots to do... More

We combined a stay here in our camper van through Okay2stay with a stargazer tour. If we hadn't seen the listing on the Okay2 stay site, then I think that we would have missed out on a wonderful experience. Despite the sky being partly cloudy we throughly enjoyed being shown stars, planets and galaxies. We also saw & heard the... More

Wow! This was truly the highlight for me of our week long trip around the north island, a real unexpected treat. From the moment we arrived it was "on"- Alistair saying like Doc off Back to the future... "quick, come with me, something's about to happen!" A satellite was crossing above us it turned out... We looked at so many... More

This can undoubtedly be the best possible astronomical tour in New Zealand. Our host and guide, Alastair, is deeply passionate and knowledgeable about the subject. The tour stretched to about 2 hours as he obliged to our requests to see more planets and stars. He starts with the basics and covers the different dimensions perfectly. The meteorites from different places... More

Hi Gurav, Many thanks for your kind review...glad you enjoyed the tour and the meteorites...they do add a 'hands on' aspect that I think makes the connection with the stars and planets more real...it's not everyday you get to handle something 4.5 billion years old! The oldest things you can ever touch! More

We feel so fortunate to have found Stargazers and to have experienced one of the night tours. We were also very lucky to have a completely clear sky on the night we were there and found ourselves completely enthralled by Alastair's knowledge and infectious enthusiasm for his subject. This tour us a must for anyone with even the slightest interest... More

We visited Stargazers in October of 2014. Alastair Brickell owns the observatory and B&B, both in the same building. Everything was spotlessly clean. Alastair's commentary was informative and educational. His telescope focused on stars, constellations and galaxies I have read and heard about, but never thought I would see in real life. He delivered a "mini-lecture" in a friendly, appealing... More

Hi Tucker, Many thanks for your kind review. Glad you enjoyed your stargazing tour. I agree that no matter how often you see photos of things in the sky it's always impressive and memorable to actually see them 'live' with your own eyes through a big telescope! More
