Chiesa aperta ma campanile coperto

Built, together with the adjoining convent (now rebuilt and housing the town hall), at the end of the sixteenth century but with further accommodation, especially inside, during the eighteenth century. Simple façade, in the classic gabled form, plastered except the stone frames of the portal and the window above; in stone blocks are also the two side pilasters; the frame of the portal has a decoration engraved with rhombic motifs, also above the lintel of the portal and the window instead of a more usual gable there are lateral spirals. Outside the most conspicuous part had to be the three-tiered sail bell tower with blind and open single-light windows, which unfortunately we could not see because it was covered by the scaffolding and the sheets of the ongoing renovation. Only narrow nave of medium length, preceded by the underchoir (note on the right, the niche with a beautiful wooden crucifix of the seventeenth-eighteenth century), with a very sober decoration overall, especially for a Baroque church; three arches on each side house as many eighteenth-century altars in inlaid polychrome marble, all surmounted by canvases except the central ones, where there are statues; between the arches there are niches (two on each side) also hosting statues, except the second on the left, which has no artistic content; above these niches there are then stucco medallions that contain: a painting in the first on the right, a statue in the second on the right, empty the first on the left, a painting of the second on the left. A staircase in the second niche on the right leads to underground rooms, which, however, are devoid of any interest (they look more like a cellar). The most striking part is undoubtedly the presbytery, where there is the eighteenth-century high altar in inlaid polychrome marble and behind a monumental wooden baroque aedicule with a large canvas in the center.

Not a stunning piece of architecture, but still a beautiful Church.
You'll probably pass by it when visiting the Castle and the Cathedral, so you should stop by.
