This is a large Fort, which on a nice day is perfect to have a stroll. Although closed you get a sense of the size of the place and what it must've been like when it was operational.

At the top of the hill and surrounded by large trees it is hard to see this place from L'Aquila, however if you drive or walk up the road it stands quite strong (especially after all the earthquakes the region experienced).
Impressive castle but unfortunately under construction, like zo many other monuments since the 2009 earthquake. On Sunday evening it's the place to be for a real Italian evening stroll. You can have a drink on the terrace at the south-east corner of the fountain.

After having a coffee or meal nearby, this is a great place to have a walk afterwards. I suggest going at sunset so that you can see the shadows and the different colorations of the stone structure - it is awe inspiring
