You need to know a little history to appreciate this, but very worthwhile. This convent was patronized by the d'Este Duchesses. Interesting for women's history.

A number of members of the d'Este family are buried here. Interesting is the tomb of Lucrezia Borgio, whose bum rap by history seems to be undeserved.

I visited in October, 2015. It was closed, but my tourist guide said they did vespers at 6:00 ( I think it was 6:00). I returned just in time to see someone leaving. They left the door ajar, so I entered. I was completely alone...More

You have to knock on the door and hope that the monastery's caretaker will let you in. We had no trouble and he let us take our time to visit.......it .helps if you speak some Italian as I do not think he speaks English. It...More
