This gate is very nice decorated and big. Both sides are beautiful. It is an arc dedicated to Traianus, Roman Emperor. It was build at the beginning of the second century.

This lovely arch separates the “old town” from the new and reminds us of the power of Ancient Rome . Carvings commemorate the battles and victories of this very well traveled Emperor.

We drove an hour out our way to see this arch. I probably wouldn't recommend that the average person go so far out of their way. We did, because my husband and I have degrees in Greek and Roman Art and Archaeology and my husband's...More

The Arch of Trajan is one of the best-preserved Roman arches in Italy. It helps to have a guide to describe the images on the various panels. There is also a cross-decorated shield surmounted with a cross etched on one of the upper panels.

We happened to be walking past at night time and the Arco was lit up, with a magical light show set to classical music. Stunning! An intriguing find when we weren't expecting it!
