We visited this fabulous market when we first moved to Italy in 2019 and loved it. Arezzo is a darling Tuscan town with medieval architecture. We returned again to find more treasures. Don’t assume a piece will last if priced well. There are several parking garages within walking distance, fabulous cafes & restaurants. Keep in mind any large pieces will need transport out of market. The most darling 85 year old Francesco is contacted by phone from the sellers to have the item carted to your garage for 20-30€. He’s amazing and sweet. The vendors will explain a piece & tell you what they know & negotiate on price. It’s a really lovely way to find unique Italian made items & more. Bring your biggest car, you’ll need it.

This was our second time in Arezzo and visiting on the first Sunday of the month we were pleasantly surprised the discover the town lanes covered with vendors selling their antiques or other wares.
It was an absolute delight just looking at all these old, curious, strange, beautiful things - books, linen, jewellery, vases, utensils, mirrors, furniture...
We parked near the train station so we had no problem with the traffic ( 3 EUR for 4 hours). It does get a bit crowded, but this is something to be expected.
Will recommend it to anyone.

We came here specifically for the market and we weren't disappointed. Not only was the two day market full of traders and a very wide variety of goods but it's setting was truly wonderful as well. A fantastic atmosphere where we bought many lovely things ranging from jewellery boxes, vinyl records, shells and candelabras. We took an empty suitcase for the flight home. Next time we will take a van!

The pastries are awesome! I had pastry, espresso, and then wine to celebrate women! Stefania is a force of nature, witty, vibrant, beautiful inside and out. There are tables inside and covered tables outside where you can enjoy a pastry and espresso/cappuccino or panino and glass of wine. The wine in Arezzo is INCREDIBLE and so is the FOOD!!!

We strolled around this lovely market for all sorts of antiques for a couple of hours.
The market spreads across the nice medieval city center and gives endless choices and negotiation possibilities.

We have been to Italy twice and both times we have made a point to visit this market. It is HUGE and it spreads out all over the town center and into the little streets and alleys. We took the train from Florence to get there and it is a about a 10 minute walk from the train station to the market. My parents, who are in their 70s and 80's, got worn out walking around but they hung in there for a few hours! It was not so difficult that they couldn't manage it. There are hills and cobblestones though as was pointed out! I disagree with the reviewer who said that there is not much to buy for tourists. Yes, there are a lot of great deals on furniture but there is PLENTY of other things too. We all bought things that we were able to bring back easily in our suitcases. Our last trip there we went both Sat and Sunday and I still think we didn't see all of it. There are deals at the restaurants for shoppers ( which we did on Sat) but it can take a long time to eat. We asked a vendor where she got her lunch and she sent us to a "bar" that does a lunch buffet. Tons of food, only 8 euro and we were back on our way in no time!

We are always searching for small antiques and curios when we travel, so when we heard of the Arezzo Market, and it's dates worked for us in Italy, we had to go. The market is on the first Sunday of the month, and the preceding Saturday. So it was on Saturday, June 4 and Sunday, June 5. Next one is July 2 & 3, 2016. It takes place in Piazza Grande, and quite a few surrounding streets. Apparently as many as 400 temporary vendors, as well as the existing Arezzo antique shops. It is a fabulous event! There are many cafes and restaurants within the area, so it's easy to take a break and people watch. We parked in the Pietri parking lot, and it's a short walk with escalators into the centre. Tourist information office is right at the top of the escalator. From there it's just a two block walk.

Looking for beauty and history? This antiques market is overwhelming, yet well organised. Bring a big van, money and spend time to collect old, beautiful things to bring home - or buy that one thing that will make you smile, every time you look at it. Arezzo's center is very charming, has plenty of cool restaurants, elegant shops and the nicest local people who will welcome you warmly into their old town. Our only regret was we didn't get to spend more than a few hours there - but on the other hand.... that gives us the pleasure and joy of returning hopefully one day again.

If you are in the zone on the first Sunday of the month there is no better way to spend a day, wandering from one seller to another in one of the most beautiful piazzas in Italy! There's no telling what you might find and go home with, after bargaining naturally!

What happens if it rains? I see rain is forecast for this weekend! 🙁
Written 30 August 2018
I;m sorry! I just saw your questions. It rained overnight when we were there. The vendors closed up and reopened the next day. I don't know what they would do if it RAINED during the day. Some of the area is covered and some vendors have covers on their goods.
