The Roman amphitheater was built at the turn of the second century. It is an elliptical structure made of sandstone blocks, bricks and marble, 120 meters long and seventy meters wide. The remains are in far better condition than I had expected and, together with...More

This Roman ruin is small by comparison to other cities, but is a hidden treasure close to shopping streets, worth a visit. It is next to a lovely park that offers cool respite under the beautiful umbrella pines to escape the summer heat.

The remains of this ancient Roman amphitheatre are surrounded by fencing so visitors can only look at the ruins of this structure. Several of the archways leading into the arena are still standing, but little lele is identifiable.

If you want to visit the Ruins, but do not want to go in to the museum, you can, but you need to ask Museum staff. We did both. Highly recommended if you like Ancient History.

We found this of one of the main shopping streets, it just looks like you are approaching a park and behind the railings are these ruins. Unfortunately we went on a sunday and it was closed but you could see it through the bars.

This attraction is barely visible from the busy street and it is not often open to the public. While there are some fine examples of Roman original architecture, much is covered with wire mesh and there are some undesirables sleeping in the adjacent park. If...More
