We contacted Langa Wine Tour to arrange a wine tour. Marco Carosso replied within a few hours via email and WhatsApp, and offered us two options: 'a day with a local winemaker', where he would show us around personally, and 'an independent wine tour', where we would get an itinerary with 2 or 3 visits to producers.
Both options would be tailored to our wishes (famous barolo houses, small local producers, or a mix) and with respect to your place of stay. They come with a lunch reservation (not included in the price), also tailored to our wishes ranging from simple to Michelin star.
Since the independent tour was easier on our wallet (50/75 euro pp for 2/3 visits with tastings) we chose that that one. Between 11:30 and 17:00 we visited 3 wineries, Marco's own in the middle. All of them were interesting, ranging from small, medium and large family business. In Fratelli Revello we tasted wine while practically sitting in the vineyard where it grew.
I have to admit that the visit to Marco and his small family winery Cascina Galarin was the best. His English is very good, and talked enthusiastically about the whole process from grapegrowing, to harvesting (which was in full progress at the time), to wine making, and drinking/aging. He also took us to his vineyards, which offered a spectacular view of the full surroundings of Langhe, Roero and Monferrato.
We kind of felt that we missed out on not having him with us all day, but this was a nice and modestly priced alternative.
Like everyone who has done this before us: Highly recommended!
