We returned there after a few years. The church of Santa Maria degli Angeli, in Alassio, is also known as the church of Don Bosco. It has ancient origins but in the eighteenth century it was transformed, after the purchase by Don Bosco (St. John Bosco). They turned the whole complex into a Salesian College, and the church lost its original architectural characteristics. Today it has a lofty front elevation, with a portal surmounted by a mullioned window and a second round window, all plastered in a light color. Inside, it has a beauty on its own right, simple but very spiritual. It is the ideal place to stop for a while, in search of peace and to pray and meditate.…

We went to Santa Maria because we promised to light a candle for a friend's father, British Special Boats, who was killed in the Alassio landing in 1944. The interior is somber with lovely arches. We had time to pause and reflect and offer thanks to those who gave their lives for our freedom. Whitebeard83…
