Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Paradise for snorkelling and diving. Heaps of people surf and go fishing too. I saw a wide variety of sea life. Nudibranchs, kahawai, snapper, trevally, squid, octopus, squid eggs, puffer fish. Reef is healthy with plenty rock formations to film underwater and good amount of kelp and seaweed. I stayed at the Matauri Bay holiday park and the beach was 20 metres from my van. I spent 5 hours in the water one day.
This place Matauri Bay beach and Tutukaka lighthouse snorkelling and Poor Knights islands diving were highligjts of my New Zealand roadtrip. So many memories. Nice people all around you.❤️❤️❤️🐟🐟🐟

This for me is one of the best beaches in the world. Perfect sand, great views put to the bays, bit protected by the mount, even love the campsite and the connection to the rainbow warrior. It’s a little off the beaten track but worth the journey.

This bay is at the headland of what is a circular drive from state highway 10 and back again past Whangaroa harbour. The bay comes into view from a distance at a high point and you approach and is magnificent in its splendour. At beach level there is a large car park with a short flat walk to the superb sandy beach. A motor park/campsite is at the north side of the beach and at the Southside a not too attractive beach side development that does not enhance the ambience. Great beach at the end of a scenic drive.

The water is clear and pleasantly chilled with a scattering of people this early in the day. The waters of the bay hide the relic of an altogether darker moment in the country’s history- the wreck of the Rainbow Warrior that was reflected from Auckland Harbour and scuttled off the bay . Its a Mecca for divers. There is a memorial marker at the northern end of the beach

turn off the main road north and do the 40km tourist drive loop. Matsuri Bay is just one of several beautiful isolated little bays n beach’s along this great little coastal drive. well worth doing rather than just heading straight up the highway.

We walked all along the beach and looked for bright mother of pearl shells from the local barnacles. If you collect green beach glass, there is plenty to find. Water wasn't too clean, but warm enough to swim or kayak
