There is no entrance fee to the museum, you can spend there as long as you wish and you can find a lot of interesting information about Devon, its history, about the nature, also about the historical events during the world wars...

Loved the military display as an old soldier myself. A real ‘old style’ museum with stiffed birds etc. Good facilities with toilets and a cafe. Good central location too.

A great free museum, ideal for a rainy day in Barnstaple. A lot to see in this lovely building, particularly the local pottery collection.

This is a nice little local museum charting the history of North Devon. While the displays are a little traditional (dated?) including un-pc displays of stuffed animals generally they are informative and interesting. There is a nice little coffee shop for beverages and cakes but...More

Great place to visit for a lesson in local history, with interesting displays, including local displays of fossils, bird life and animals. Museum is staffed by very knowledgeable volunteers.

A very good small museum in the town centre, very well laid out, free!! Starts in the prehistoric age and goes through the various stages. Plenty of interesting things to read about, I liked the story around the skeleton that was dug up. Don't miss...More

Lovely little museum, both suited to adults and children. The kids aged 11 and 8, loved the quiz. Funny to watch them try to use a typewriter in the WW1 exhibit!! They wanted to know how to delete. Glad we stumbled across it.

A good place to have a wander around in if you are in the town but not really worth making a special visit for. That said, it did explain the town's history well with a variety of exhibits, we neally missed the rooms upstairs accessed...More

Apparently Barnstaple's early history is unknown but you will probably find out about anything that is in this great Museum.

I did not see any dogs in there. I can't imagine that they generally would, unless they are hearing dogs or seeing dogs (I'm sorry there is a phrase for those types of dogs but I can't recall it )
