Not a lot to see, but it's worth the climb, to see the views over the town, and to read about the castle's history. Thanks to English Heritage for keeping it accessible and safe to visit.

Situated on mound behind the shops and near to the Priory, are situated the remains of the Norman Keep. Also is Norman House with a spectacularly intact chimney. There's lots of peace in this area away from the hustle of the shops.

A few crumbling stone walls at the top of a knoll. I do like history but this little bit of it was not very exciting I’m afraid

It was worth the detour after visiting the Church and harbour, but there wasn't a lot to see. My wife and daughter walked up the hill while I stayed at the bottom and took some pictures. Unless you are really into castle remains, I wouldn't...More

Nice little walk around for 10 mins or so. Not a lot to see and no charge. Shame it's left open to vandalism.

There isn't much to see at the castle ruins, but what is there is interesting, and by walking up to the site, one gets a good view of the entire area around the Castle, Norman House and Priory Church, as well as the High Street...More

Kids will love climbing this and being king of the castle. But the sense of history is palpable here. It’s nearly a 1,000 years old and wondrous. Ensure you see the nearby Norman House and, of course, the Priory to appreciate the events of the...More

A derelict castle keep sitting on top of it's own motte. The constable's house is near by and worth a visit too.

It's in the centre of town, costs nothing, and gives a lovely view across the bowling green to the Priory (big church). If I lived here I'd definitely challenge myself to visit every day. Also really liked the poetic wiggle of the stone steps up...More

After visiting the priory church, I walked to this place. I found the steps, as I climbed up, to be very narrow and had to keep putting my left hand down to steady myself. It was a bit of a climb to the top, but...More
