You can walk up to a 6-mile circular route through this reclaimed mining nature reserve. Good paths round the lake for wheelchairs and lots of sculptures to see. Good for bird watching in the spring and something unusual can always turn up on the lake.

This is a hidden gem, great place to take the dog. Only issue is there are no bins and no seats on way round. We did the 3 mile walk with the dog and had to carry a poo bag for 2 miles! Would definitely...More

If you didn't already know it was there, you could be forgiven for completely missing Watergate Park, which is nicely wedged between Whickham and Lobley Hill. The car park is huge and free and I have yet to see it full. Easily accessible on foot...More
