Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We sought this place out and were looking forward to the hot chocolate. Unfortunately it was only average. Also the shop is kind of hard to find.

Delicious afternoon tea with sandwiches, a large scone with jam and cream, 2 types of chocolate cake each, choc buttons and 2 handmade chocs each, plus any hot drink of your choice, all for £9.95 each! We were really full and ended up taking home a doggie bag,so it was really good value for money. Friendly service and the best hot choc in town! Would definitely recommend!

We were given vouchers for a chocolate afternoon tea, and a basic cream tea, which we redeemed this week. The establishment is down a side path off the main shopping area, so parking is not easy, should this be important to you.
The cafe seats about 18 customers, on rather hard and uncomfortable wooden chairs, and was cool, so we kept our coats on. There was no atmosphere, we were given our drinks, but had finished them by the time the food arrived. There was a lot of banging and crashing, which I think was the server emptying the coffee filter, but couldn’t see. It made me jump on several occasions. The food was certainly interesting, some bizarre sweet chocolate finger sandwiches made with brioche, as well as savoury ones, cake, a small pot of chocolate sauce, into which one was to dip marshmallows and fudge, using our fingers, and two rather mis-shapen scones with cream and jam. Mary Berry would not have approved! Scattered over these was a handful of chocolate buttons and 4 chocolates. We travelled some distance to partake of this “ feast” but I don’t think I would recommend it, or go there again. The toilet was up 18 steps, tricky if you have limited mobility.

Hi, I'm sorry that you had a poor experience with us when you came to visit us for Chocolate Afternoon Tea. We are in the centre of Loughborough, which is mainly pedestrianised, so it's not possible to get a parking space right by the shop (although there are some disabled parking spaces only about 100m away), but there are a few parking options that are only a short walk away from us. As you mention, we are a very small shop so unfortunately it is not feasible for us to have a downstairs toilet as space is very limited. I will speak to our team regarding the temperature of the shop and also regarding the service that you received and assure you that we will learn from it so that it does not happen again. I am very sorry that you experienced this. All our scones, bakes, cakes and chocolates are handmade on site, which means that the shape of the scones is not always uniform. I do hope that they tasted delicious though! Best wishes, Lizi

We asked Chocolate Alchemy to do a chocolate truffle rolling workshop and afternoon tea for my sister in law’s hen do. They were flexible enough to bring the workshop and afternoon tea to us and everything about it was absolutely perfect!! Isaac was brilliant and kept all the ladies well entertained during the workshop with lots of tasting opportunities! Everyone went home with a beautiful bag of hand rolled truffles that they had prepared themselves and which tasted amazing. The afternoon tea which followed afterwards was a sight for sore eyes - beautifully displayed and absolutely exquisite. It tasted delicious and there was enough left for us to take some home. Chocolate Alchemy’s prices were very reasonable too - I really can’t recommend this place enough for whatever event you are trying to organise!

Chocolate Alchemy is easily my favourite cafe in Loughborough. I have visited several times and enjoyed my experience on every occasion. They have lots of lovely beverages, bakes and handmade chocolates, and offer fabulous cream teas when booking in advance. They even give classes so that you can get involved yourself! My only slightly negative feedback would be the lighting,as from outside the cafe seems very dark and looks like it is closed, just thinking of passing trade. Either way, it is definitely worth a visit! ❤️

Absolutely delightful and filling afternoon tea was enjoyed by four of us on Saturday afternoon. You do need to book as it is not a large venue but the afternoon was presented nicely and refill tea was on hand. Really good value for money

I booked a table for 6 adults for the chocolate afternoon tea at £12.95 pp. The food came and yes, it was lovely (see pics) but they gave us two of what you see in the picture - that’s between 3 people. Therefore what you see in the picture cost £39 (there was a scone each which you can’t see too).
I was so disappointed with the amount we got. It cost me £77 for 2 of the cake stands of food :(
Lovely, but won’t be back.

Definitely a bit livelier than the last time I went, and chocolate afternoon teas obviously proving very popular. Drinks especially the thick hot chocolate still delicious.

Today my daughter had her chocolate making party for her 8th birthday at Chocolate Alchemy. They allowed us to bring in some party food for lunch (or the kids could have a cream tea) then once this was finished the chocolate making course started which lasted around an hour.

There was a wonderful relaxed atmosphere and Isaac and his co-worker (I’m so sorry I can’t remember name!) were absolutely lovely and my daughter and her friends had the best time! I highly recommend this place, what a lovely find. Thanks again to Chocolate Alchemy!

I am struggling to give this a one star rating... Very disappointing visit :-( Being a newbie to the area and after a shopping trip in lovely Loughborough, I thought I would visit Chocolate Alchemy as it appeared from the outside warm, friendly and inviting. It was cold outside but dark and I noticed it was open by the sign but of course not the closing hours. After sitting down and reading through the menu I decided on a hot drink and snack. The waitress took my order and then decided to retort they were closing in 5 minutes!! I cancelled it and left quietly feeling disappointed... There were two lots of other people in there drinking/eating already... Miserable welcome :-(
