The train and murder mystery side was great but was put off my food with ants in the salt and the sugar bowl was disgusting. These were discovered after eating my soup which was amazing but put a damper on the hole evening .I would...More
I took my wife on the Charnwood Forrester for an evening meal and we were very impressed. The standard of food exceeded our expectations, hot fresh and tasty. Staff were polite, efficient and friendly. The train and carriages were person and full of atmosphere.
Last year our children treated my wife and I to Sunday lunch on the Elizabethan first class dining train for my seventieth birthday. We enjoyed the day so much that we did it again today to celebrate my wife's own big birthday. Although for today's...More
Saturday Steam. The event has to be worthwhile to travel from south of Birmingham to Loughborough on a day that was forecasted potential rain. I can only say that it was well worthwhile. It was the first time we had made an afternoon visit on...More
Sunday dinner is always a treat! But an excellent meal served on board a steam train in a reconditioned Pullman coach is really a treat. The journey from Loughborough to Leicester alone is worthwhile but enjoying Sunday dinner as well makes this a real treat...More

The stations have different themes and there is a garden railway at Rothley, apart from the terminus at Leicester which is a little bland they are all worth breaking the trip, especially as that will give your son the chance to see different locos. At Loughborough the Grand Union canal is only a few minutes away and is worth a visit. The railway does sell a guide book for a few quid which details walks from each station.
