Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great Gardens, well maintained. The Castle ruins are in need of some love and attention, but worth a visit.

Lovely rolling parkland for a relaxing summer stroll with some good information boards around the moat of the castle.to enable you to imagine what it once looked like.

Stumbled across the ruins of Wallingford castle during our walk from the town upto the nearby Benson Lock. Very pretty meadows enroute.

Good information boards which show you what it would have looked like

Slightly hard to find entrance ( we took Castle Lane by the Boathouse pub, and walked all the way around to find the entrance is on Castle Street !!).
Once inside (entrance is free) the grass is well maintained, the various ruins are visible (although one are was inaccessible). Was a good break on a sunny day but not a great amount to see.

Well maintained gardens, and castle buildings. The site ( and indeed the town) could be a bit more expansive on this once important castle with royal connections. The area around the keep is fenced off ( due to being "unsafe", but what remains is interesting, and would definitely benefit from telling the story of the castle.
Worthwhile visit.

We came to Wallingford as part of our day trip to Cholsey and Oxford. Wallingford lies between the two and was used for Midsomer Murders episode, Midsomer Murders is one of our favorite shows. After leaving the market area downtown a local recommended we walk here on our way to the bridge in town. It was a very pleasant sidetrack that we thoroughly enjoyed. Walked to the top of the hill of the old tower and it over looks Wallingford. We were all alone and walking in history.

Remains of a ruined castle. Lived around there for a long time before visiting. Local allotment club used to have a band concert there in August for many years.

Path to the top only for disabled with sticks when dry

What lovely remains and gardens of this once important castle. It became a victim of the Civil War, before that time it was one of the largest castles in England.

Me and my friends (13) all live in wallingford so when we are bored, we go to castle gardens. There is so much to do there, perfect for a picnic, photoshoot- almost anything. It’s cool when me and my friends are up there and u can sometimes see bulls that are kept in the field.

please be aware the door by george hotel to castle gardens closes at 3pm in the winter and 7pm in the summer
