Friendly staff and excellent fish, chips and peas. Batter can be a very good indicator of quality and this a great; crisp and dry. Other food that I've had here in the past has also been unpretentious and of high quality.

I emailed this pub in advance to check that they would be happy for us to visit with children, and they welcomed us with open arms. We sat (and played) in the spacious beer garden, although the décor inside the pub was also imaginative and...More

Renowned for live music, good pub food and excellent beer. There was no live music when I visited but lots of flyers around the pub advertising forthcoming bands. The beer and food were very good and reasonably priced. Definitely worth a return visit.

Never had a bad time here, well sourced independent ales and good pub grub in a proper pub served up by jolly good folks, try the pies and chilli. Great place to catch a gig and now with new garden. Highly recommended!

Been here loads of times over the years, mainly to see purple rain (Prince tribute band). Always a good night, great little pub, top marks.

Wonderful location on the cut, the steamboat is easy to get to from Central Ipswich. Its an unreconstructed boozer, without pretend old books and crap decor in it. instead there are lots of well kept ales and ciders, smiling staff and a brilliant PA that...More

If you're looking for a pub near the docks or Ipswich centre which is a proper, British, spit and sawdust pub, then this is it. If you want a foodie/trendy/bar/corporate type pub, look elsewhere. We love this place. It's got a friendly atmosphere, the beer...More
