We went there to catch the Ferry to the fortress, and found a pretty fjordside village that invokes an idyllic image. With wooden buildings, a shoreline footpath and swimming platforms and diving boards along the edge of the fjord this is well worth a stop...More
This city is truely amazing, especially during the summer! They have fresh shrimp coming in daily, that you can buy directly from the boats and eat on the harbour. It's a small town with nice and welcoming people.
We did a tour of Drobak with a local family. The downtown area is very sweet and quaint with lots of good cafes and restaurants, art galleries, and an open air market. You can easily get to Drobak by ferry or bus.
Drøbak is a charming town with white houses, narrow streets and known for its galleries and art scene. The town has several cafés, a Christmas shop, an aquarium, an harbour, a playground (even though it could use some maintenance), a beach and a nice atmosphere....More

I can only speak from my experience. I also have ancestors from Norway and wanted to see where they were from. I first visited in 2007 and fell in love with the whole country. Now we go back almost every year. When making the long journey from California to Europe, I always try to squeeze in a trip to Norway since I have already come so far.
If the only destination is Drobak, you will likely fly to Oslo anyway and will want to spend some time there. It is a beautiful country.
