    Superlative
It’s a superb and most recent addition to the Public Libraries in the city. At a time when increasingly life is lived online it’s gratifying to see such a facility funded and opening. Architecturally it is special and an award winning design. Symbolising a welcome for all, the topmost floor impressively radiates outwards. Great services and facilities, such as workshops and theatre, are provided, as well as the standard ones of books, volumes and loans. A fine Café is here. Interesting to learn that a bequest from the wealthy industrialist Carl Deichman in 1785 lead to the founding of Oslo’s Public Libraries. Marvellous that almost 250 years on it continues to thrive.

    Stunning modern library
Deichman consists of 22 local libraries located all over Oslo. Deichman was founded in 1785 and is Norway’s oldest and largest public library. Deichman Bjørvika was opened in 2020. It is Oslo’s main library located between Oslo Central Station and the Opera house. This architecturally interesting building has six floors, all flooded with light thanks to the many windows and three huge geometric skylights. It is a must place to visit to just have a look at the striking interior architecture.

The most inclusive library in the world?
This is a library? It's a whole new experience in books: with architecture, art, seating, entertainments. It feels almost like a social centre, and a very nice one at that! With armchairs and day beds, meeting areas, cafes and not least - amazing views. I highly recommend relaxing here for an hour or two, especially with children as there are creative areas for them, and pram parks. It's best in the morning: after lunch it fills up with students.

Build in a modern functional deconstructivism style, this library spans 5 floors and even includes a small café, stationary/souvenir shop and coffee bar! It is well signposted and has everything one needs for the casual reader or serious student with all necessary up to date digital study aids and free WIFI. Lifts connect each floor and there are plenty of comfortable chairs and even a space for small kids to play. There are toilets on all floors but when busy prepare to queue!

I was enchanted by the architecture and artistic pieces of this building. When we were passing by it, and someone told me that it was a library, it was hard to believe. It looks almost magical and seemed bustling with life.

I have been to this library many times, but this time I went to read with friends and we sat down in the music area. It was a lot of people in the library because it is exam season and everyone is reading, so there wasn’t a lot of space. We sat down and started reading and eating some snacks, and then one employee came up to me and said “you understand that you didn’t make the right decision now” and I asked him what he was talking about. On the side of the table it was a sign saying the seat is reserved for people who want to use the music (the sign was hidden and if I had seen it I wouldn’t sit down on that chair). I just looked at him and said okay, and my friend said that we didn’t see the sign. The employee then started to say “you need to apologize to me, you did something dumb and you can’t eat in the library”. One thing I didn’t understand was that he said that I can’t eat there because the girl that was sitting on the opposite side of the library was eating too but he didn’t say anything to her. I put away my food and he left, I was going to pack my stuff AND not even 1 minute went by and he came back and said “did you not understand what I told you?” I don’t know what he thought, but I’m not going to rush with packing my stuff. I left with my friends to another table (next to the one we were sitting on because some people left) and then 20 minutes went by, some other people came and sat down where I was sitting and started reading. They were being really loud but he never went up to them and told them to leave. They were sitting there for a few hours and he walked past them MANY times. This was the first time I had been in a situation like this, and no other employee in the library is as disgusting and racist as that guy was.

We had a bit of time to kill on a wet day and popped into to the library - it’s a superb venue, and very family friendly. As well as the obvious attraction of lots of books there are art installations, lots of places to sit and read or chat, cafes and places you can eat your own food. There are some great views from the upper floors. The architecture is stunning inside and out. When the weather doesn’t lend itself to sitting outside this is a lovely place to while away some time.

There is a coffee shop at the entrance, with nice coffees and cakes or snacks, people take it and go somewhere with their drinks to read.
There is lots of escalator to go on the top, the decoration is atypical but lovely for a library and there is also spaces for group study, private meeting etc

One of the best places in Oslo, and not only for reading books. You can go with your young one, as there is a small playground at the second floor. There are also many children books there that you can sit on a bench and read with your child.

There are many other activities inside the library, like a place with 3D printers, another with sewing machines, a corner where you can play board games, another one where you can listen to LPs and so on. There are also many chairs around the library where one can just pick a book, sit and read it.

I highly recommend visiting this place, it's unlike any library I've seen before.

Cool looking place, however not very practical. Finding a spot to study may be a challenge. Was told to leave by an angry employee for sitting in the wrong place…
