Not overrun by tourists, it is an interesting fortress with nice rooms and a WW2 occupation museum which $$ to enter. Nice views over the harbor and close to where the cruise boast tie up. Wear comfortable shoes for the cobblestones.
Not much was open and no charge to walk around but it is pleasant to walk inside the walls. The resistance museum is inside the fortress and that is very interesting. There is a charge to go in the museum . Nice views of the...More

As others have said, the fortress is free; a large area to walk around and a glorious walk around the harbour to get there (if the weather is kind). The castle interior entry is 70NOK for adults and 50NOK for seniors. I would recommend getting the audio tour as there is little written information.
You also have the Norwegian resistance museum nearby. You really should make time to see this if you're in the area.
