- Roqaya NKatowice, Poland4 contributionsA mustDespite the fact that 'Scream' was in storage the muesum is an abdolute must. It's a small one with focus on specific Norwegian artists. Not too many artworks too be overwhelmed but enough to get the taste of it. I recommend playing the museum game with hidden voice messages. The souvenir shop and cafe are lovely. There is also space for kids to be creative. My 11yrs old loved the place.Visited January 2020Travelled with familyWritten 16 January 2020
- bamsestockholmStockholm, Sweden110 contributionsA new Munch Museum was excellent! We went to Oslo in order to visit a new Munch Museum! It was perfect! So many beautiful paintings there and a new Munch Museum bilding is so beautiful. Be aware that we need to book a slot in advance... We saw that a few people could not come in to Museum since they did not book/reserve a time slot in advance...Visited November 2021Written 27 November 2021
- Clare81 contributionsGreat art and building let down by rude staffI visited the Munch museum twice on my Oslo visit. From an art perspective it was full of gems and the Munch collection was outstanding-well worth a couple of visits to take it all in. One entrance ticket was valid for the full day with no time limit and allowed access to all the exhibitions on all the floors, which was excellent value and the reason I give it 3 stars. The buidling itself was interesting to me and the views from different floors across Oslo the higher up you go are fantastic. I would definately have a drink at the Skybar at the top.... Cons I don't like to write negative comments, but found staff on both occassions rude and unhelpful which let the place down. Certain bags need to go in lockers (which is fine) but then no help was given to people regarding the lockers. Then security appeared to abuse their power by randomly allowing some people up the stairs whilst turning others away back to the lockers for no reason other than they could. Horrible to witness. Dont bother to ask staff for any information regarding the art work, they'll just shrug at you.Visited March 2022Written 30 August 2022

It's a very interesting piece of architecture. But mostly from the outside, from the inside, I felt like we did more running on the stairs, than looking at the art (but we were running out of time as well, so that probably affected my experience).
Museum mostly focuses on modern art + Munch. If someone is into that, I think it's still a good museum, with many interesting pieces. At that time, on the top floor was a temporary exhibition, which was actually terrifying. I'm a grown woman enjoying horror movies, but that was... something else. So if you are planning to go with kids - I suggest checking beforehand what kind of temporary exhibition is on.

Must see building/gallery on an Oslo visit located on the quayside with lots of restaurants nearby. Galleries spread over a few floors including a section dedicated to the most famous Scream painting. Galleries are well laid out and presented. The building itself is very impressive. Bags/rucksacks are not allowed in galleries but there are lockers available (free) on the ground floor near the gallery entrance. There is a very good gift/book shop in the main foyer. There is also a really cool bar terrace and restaurant on the top floor (once you enter you cannot go back to the galleries) well worth a visit. Overall a great experience.

Soo disappointing.
Torally unimpressed with the curation of the Munch collection in this brand new building.
The building is interesting, with huge spaces, just ideal. The paintings are well spaced out. Plenty of wall space. But whatever they teach Curators at Curator-School it is deffo not practical common sense.
The size of the font on the wall, giving date of painting and name, require you to get up close and personal to read ... along with everyone else!! And forget such info for the Monumental Munch paintings, they're foregone completely! No info. And in another room, the font blends into the background. Doh!
Why, oh why have the Curators persisted with such old technology, typed small fonts that wouldn't look out of place in a Museum from the 19th century??
And it is somewhat disingenuous to display in a darkened area, referencing 3 illustrations of 'The Scream' when we all know the painting is still actually shown in the National Museum...
The pretention of the Curators and Management is such they have deemed it appropriate to have only unisex toilets. No choice.
And I can understand disallowing backpacks, but having to empty the contents of your handbag into a paper carrier is excessive. Oh yes, they should have invested a bit more on the technology for the lockers, given the frequency in which they fail and security has to be called to unlock with a key.
The collection is fine. But would I revisit? A resounding No.
This museum is hugely frustrating. And very overpriced at 160 NOK for the experience. I have visited several of Oslo's brilliant museums and enjoyed a much more interesting experience, and at far better value.
The 10th floor view over the city is fab. But it will cost you.

This museum is a must add to the itinerary for a visit to Oslo. The Munch exhibit surpassed expectations. The building itself lends to a wonderful experience.

The museum has 13 floors but only a few present art- however, this will be enough to spend half a day. There are three Munch floors, alll very intereting, one with his best works, one with monumantal paintings for the university (very large) and one with his woodblocks (jigsaw puzzles) and prints. Furthermore there are floors for exhibitions, during out visit one about a Norwegian female artist and an excellent one about painting after World War 2, when art had to be reinvented: abtract works, action painting, Cobra. Outstanding works and well presented. The entrance fee is a bit tough, 160 Kr. We could easily buy a ticket but advance booking is advised. The shop is very disappointing. The views from the building to the outside world are an extra.

Similar to my experience visiting the Opera, this attraction was also closed when I arrived at 9:00 am. I took several pictures of this attraction as i proceeded with my walk.
I moted a big, black statue of a woman holding a baby near this museum. The Sauna Area is also near by as well as the floating Structure in the water,

It is worth stopping in if you have time and you have the Oslo pass, as entry is free. Not that many interesting works and many were duplicated at the National Museum. The best Scream is the painted version, but that is only on display one hour in three, however the original painted version it is on constant display at the National Museum.
The building is interesting and the bar at the top has a great view, but to be honest the non Munch art is not worth seeing and the National Museum is better.

Huge building with extraordinary arrangement of the exhibition. Much more to see and discover than most popular Munch's art. Not only Munch's works to see.

An overall nice museum showcasing Munch's art, along with a few others on the lower floor. The building is great, with lovely views over the opera House and harbour.i really enjoyed the room showcasing his house which was interactive in a way I've not seen before - very interesting.
Fair warning: absolutely no backpacks appear to be allowed in, so if you're staying nearby, it's best to leave all items in your room so you don't have to hope for a free locker - the instructions on the locker were also not great, leading to a 5 minute fumble figuring out how to actually get it to lock.
